Been getting up at 2 am to watch our games, finding little to no comment on this site so spent some time in the UK press and watching replays and other teams, to get an idea of what's happening. Here's where it looks to me. So 900 million quid spent on new players by Todd and his "guys", but we still have a bloated squad due to poor selling. We still have no proven striker, our main target for 2 years , a muddled midfield and defence, too many inexperienced 'wingers", too many left backs, not enough right backs and not enough Central defenders. Here's todays list of players we want to move on. Malang Sarr, CHO, Cuccurella, Chalobah, Gallagher and Maartsen. Of those, in my opinion, Maatsen and Chalobah are better than Cucurella and Fofana, and I'd not sell either. The rest I'd sell. Gallagher is unlucky to be good at many things but a master of none ,and just doesn't solve anything we lack in midfield. If I were him I'd go like a shot to Spurs, he's just what Ange likes and will become really brilliant under his coaching. Wish we'd had the bottle to get Ange, but we didn't and Poch will do a top job. Ange might prove to be a very sought after coach in the PL. Cucurella is not right for us, so good bye and good luck. The others likewise. Then there's Mudryk . I think he's too immature and naive as a person, putting aside his football ability and experience. He will be a long time coming good in the "big smoke" cause he's just a small town boy with big ability but out of his depth in a City like London. I remember coming here in 1969 from Sydney and it took me nearly 2 years assimilate to the more complex lifestyle and pace of work. Loan him to a team in France or Italy until he grows up. Can't see us worrying the top 4 this season, just too many things for Poch to sort out with selections, and by the time he gets there, we'll be hanging around 7th or 8th place again at best. We've all missed that several teams have improved out of sight, and we no longer have any right to a top 4 place. Only City are in that position. Great year about to unfold for Chelsea, strap your self in it will be some fight.
Looks like we are getting Cole Palmer from Man City for around 40mil. I am amazed they even considered selling him to us.
Can't say I know much about him ,only what I've read. Is he ready to be our top striker or another highly talented but inexperienced youngster?? Is he a pure striker or an "allrounder" like Gallagher ?? I know he's scored a few this season already, but that's all I know, other than he's well rated.
He seems to be a winger/striker (bit like Sterling) and is very talented, he looked the finished article whenever I have seen him play, he is certainly not like Gallagher as he scores nearly every time he plays.(1000) Cole Palmer - Season Highlights | 2023 - YouTube
I don’t think they consider us rivals anymore so will sell us anyone they don’t need, similar to Arsenal getting Jesus & Zinchenko. I haven’t seen a huge amount of him but when I have he looks excellent, I do wonder if it’s because of the team he’s playing in though, hopefully not!
Hopefully we leave it at Palmer and not buy anyone else just for the sake of it. Gutted that Cucurella didn’t leave but it seemed a really bizarre choice to play him in the cup game, will be just as disappointed if that means Maatsen leaves tomorrow. I expect Sarr will go somewhere, probably for free. Hudson Odoi to Forest and then a couple of the kids out on loan, Barstow & Humphreys?
Well we just have to see how it goes until the new year now. Despite a significant step up in the quality and potential of our new squad, can't help thinking that we have made a really major blunder by not sorting out our striker. It's 3 years now since we had one, and it's cost us big time, especially when our midfield scored bugger all . Let's hope our new players put a few away and Jackson get's to the level he looks like will be just a small step for him. He's exciting and looks the real deal, especially when Poch gets our midfield working smoothly. Looking forward to a great next few months.
Man City sold the two to Arsenal after the season in which they finished 24 points behind them. Point being, they have done similar to us this season because they’re not worried about us. If Arsenal came in for a couple of their fringe players this summer I don’t think City would have entertained it as Arsenal would definitely be considered their rivals now. City are comfortable selling to us cause they’re miles ahead of us is my point.
It's weird City left him go and that he wanted to leave IMO - He was just starting to get time in the side.
It's strange alright. Having said that, City are probably the only club in Europe that could afford to let him go because of the talent they already have.
You need to go back and read what you posted, Arsenal finished closer to City because of the transfer's made to said club. If City had not sold to a direct rival they would have been home and hosed by February.
Another great bit of business, CHO sold for 5 million. How much did Bayern offer a year or so back??? And how much did we pay for Mudraker????? Just who is running our sales and purchases?? Whoever it is is not very good. Brighton have got another terrific kid from Ireland who scores for fun, and they payed about a fiver for him. Why oh why don't we fire our dopes and hire the Brighton scouts and negotiators???? Or the City, PSG whoever is doing the best buying and selling??? Surely cheaper and better value than buying 100mill players who may or may not be any good. Our blokes look like total mugs because they are !!!!!! I feel for Pochettino, he has the same size bloated squad he said 3 months ago was too big, plus has not a clue which ones are any good or ready for PL , and he's lost all the experience from the midfield which now consists of 2 x 20ish potentially great players and Gallagher, who looks like no one knows where to play him, but he's at least enthusiastic which is a rarity. Remember Nathan Ake??? We sold him for a pittance, now he's left back for Man City, best team on the planet. We have Cucurella, who cost us 60 mill. Great business again. Note that these things keep happening over and over again with Chelsea. Why are the owners not spending the time effort and money on getting people who know what they're doing instead of ****ing around with people who pay massively over the odds because we don't have anyone with the ability to spot a really good player until they see them at Brighton ?? Surely we are the dumbest Club in the PL. Where are we now?? 11th ?? After 1 Billion spent and going backwards at a record pace. Sorry to be so angry but my Spud son in law is giving me heaps about talent spotting Managers, and I have no answer.
Correct, they did. City sold to Arsenal at a time when they just finished 24 points behind them, Jesus & Zinchenko got them much closer, I know!! I’m saying at the time Man City didn’t consider them rivals because they were 24 points behind them. Which is why we got Palmer.
Palmer came on against Forest and after a minute was given the ball and he immediately ran at the Forest defence. He beat a few Forest players then checked his run to make a pass. Had he kept running I believe he would have scored to make the perfect debut.
