perhaps. But I’d be dubious of that. When he deputised for Kane’s fragile ankle, we caught some teams out, as we played to our strengths without him. But it didn’t take long IIRC until we were found out. But then again, Ange is playing a different style, so perhaps it’ll work. But even if it does… it still leaves us with Richarlison as the only other option. So the problem still hasn’t been solved!
Ironic that an injury is keeping him away from Argentina after playing for Spurs. Usually the polar opposite!
I know this wasn’t aimed at me for response, but just to add, I think most of the fan base will throw a ****ing hissy. whilst the fans are impressed with Ange, levy will have a lot to answer for. there’s no getting away from the fact we’ll have sold one of the best strikers in world football and not attempted to find a player or two that makes up for his goals. Everyone knows that Kane is irreplaceable. But I think most would feel that we’ve not found an adequate solution or solutions with a clear intent. Especially after a Richarlisons general performances so far, son’s form last season, Kulu’s goals drying up somewhat in recent months, and the fact we have made £100m from the sale.
infact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Johnson is that player. One we’ll be in discussions with right up until the deadline, but not be able to reach a deal with.
That would be a disaster...money in the bank doesn't win football matches. It isn't consistent with ENIC's policy either so I would be very disappointed if that was the outcome.
I thought that your answer might be along these lines which I think most of those who aren't in a 'levy' out camp would agree with. Those in a 'levy out' camp will be infuriated. That's why I think the club must have a plan cos it'll Levy the board with very little if any support amongst the fans. No one will turn on the manager cos unlike JM, Nuno and Conte we are enjoying our style of football. The next home game will be very interesting if we have not strengthened
IIRC Martinez might not be as expensive as we assume, as Inter have to get around FFP - especially after dropping €30m on Benjamin Pavard yesterday
If we fail to purchase 1 or two attacking players that shows the intent to try something new in the absence of Kane, I’ll be in the Levy Out group. You cannot make £100m and not show that you’re attempting to start life without him, with adequate incomings and/or promising players, and/or marquee signings. it’s completely unacceptable, and quite frankly footballing suicide.
There are limits to our spending based on stadium loan covenants. I reckon we might be able to afford another £50-70m if we can't shift anyone and possibly double that if we got six players plus Højbjerg out of the door. So I can see why we are leaving purchases to the last minute.
Brentford bidding £34M for Bakayoko suggests somebody might have lined up a move for Toney in January? Spurs the obvious candidates
Romano says Monaco aren't working on a deal for Sanchez as others *shade shade* have reported, which means Adarabioyo is more likely to join them ...or Sanchez is a makeweight for getting a few mil off the Johnson fee Also frees up the path to Johnson, as they were reportedly in for him a day or two ago, which really confused the members of our fanbase who say we should follow Brentford's lead yet don't like us following Brentford's lead for one specific player...
