https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/ryan-allsop-joins-hull-city Allsop confirmed as gone.... Decent enough keeper in my eyes (if a little prone to being beaten too easily at his near post) but certainly no better than Alnwick and if the one save Runnarson made last night is anything to go by then we should be ok (how strong a hand was that!!)....
£250k. Weve absolutely robbed them. Useless keeper. Good with the ball at his feet perhaps hes going there as a CB.
Just mulling over the signings we made this window and thinking about last season's loanees (and previous years), the latter being key to our survival and long gone. Loanees are always a loss when they leave and have to be replaced. I'm OK with using them, but when they are your star players, it makes it hard in the following window and doesnt always help you progress long term. Will the loanees this year have the impact of the last few seasons? They don't look to have the calibre of some of our previous loanees, many who were youngsters from PL clubs. 8 signings (So far) this window, 4 permie, 4 loans. Ramsey and Siopis look key in the middle of the park longer term. The jury is still out on Goutas, while Meite is yet to hit his straps, but has a good record at this level. Given all were frees, looks to be good business. Ike Ugbo, Karlan Grant, Josh Bowler and Alex Runarsson are the loanees. None are a Philogene or Kaba, a Giles or a Wilson. Maybe none will be such a loss when they go. Even if you can buy them, it's paying for something you already have. Saying that, Runarsson is out of contract at the end of the season so maybe we'll get him for free. So, Ugbo, Grant and Bowler. I'm not expecting miracles this season, but feel that squad wise, we'll be better placed to kick on at the end of this year than at the end of last year. Just hope we have a manager last long enough to build something.
I'd keep him. He showed positive bits yesterday. From what I've seen, he's more of a team player than Ugbo, with better link up play. I think Erol could find a reasonable squad player in there somewhere. He's still only young. There are a few rough edges to knock off, but I feel that could be better done in training than away on loan. Unless there's an upgrade in the pipeline.
Might be a good move for him. He hasn’t cut it with us so wouldn’t be displeased if he moves on. However a replacement needs to be lined up first.
Football finances, transfer deals and loans really baffle me. I've been reading that Lille wanted to sign Runarsson on a permanent deal, but Arsenal's asking price was too high. So we negotiated a loan deal. Under our umbingo, I didn't think we could pay for a loan deal. So whatever Lille offered, it would be more than Arsenal would get from us. Unless there's a fee agreed for January. Who knows. From what I saw last night, he's a good prospect.
Glens update this afternoon. Alleged interest in Liam Miller and reference to a Turkish defender plus the earlier mentioned news on Etete. Just a couple of days to go to get in a central defender and hopefully Moore. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/cardiff-city-transfer-news-ex-27618470
I see the little Yorkshire club have signed Djed Spence on loan now which (apparently) will allow Cody Drameh to leave again. I'm not sure if they are looking at a permanent move or loans again but I wouldn't hesitate to have him back if he became available to us (umbongo accepting). I know we're more concerned about CB's than FB's but as we saw last year, all it takes is one injury and we're back to O'Dowda and others having to fill in.
I was thinking the same BB although Drameh is essentially a right back. He can fill in on the left though as that is where we are short with O'Dowda more effective further forward. However, Bulut is more in the market for a centre back and a proper no. 9 as Ugbo, while useful in the six yard box, is ineffective elsewhere.
It's a fine line between having strength in depth and having a bloated squad. Given the number of wingers / wide attacking players we have, O'Dowda may have to be the LB cover, especially if the experiment of 3 at the back from Tuesday is an option going forward. In a 4231, we are well stocked for the 3 and the 2. LB we could get by with, CB is a necessity, an upgrade at 9 preferable. If we don't get a CB by Friday we have a problem. Anything else is a bonus. For me, as important as a Striker or LB is getting some of those not in Erol's plans out of the door.
We are winning games and scored 5 times in the last two games and when we win at Ipswich that will be 3 wins in a row. To write the team off and some players after 4 games seems harsh, using that reasoning half the top players in the world would have got dropped. Holding the ball up and playing well all over the park is useless if you do not score, it is goals that win games and Ugbo is way in front on that mark. Any player in a forward role should score goals. As far as having better loans before that must be when they played during the time we were in relegation trouble so they proved useless. McGuiness looks good but he is there to stop goals along with Goustas so they need to keep clean sheets, to put it mildly there is no defence against soft goals. Oh and suddenly we get a striker and CB and they are world beaters is strange thinking considering the complaints about the striker we have and the need for another cb. We get a cb and striker and they turn out worse than we got as has already happened.
I know I have him on ignore but.... This Jack fellow spouts absolute codswallop. Knows jack all about football.
