Is this fever more in the morning, or mainly through the night? Hope it shifts soon mate. You still get snippets about players or seeing what happens as it happens. I know nothing about any of the lads we're linked with these days

Although I agree I don’t give a ****e if we get a decent replacement for the money with time on their side, nor will you, however if we have no replacement I will be livid

Wish they’d get a move on. I’m worried about the hurricane heading my way. Not worried about flooding, just concerned I’ll lose internet and miss any transfer news!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

He mentioned you for slagging him off. I don't mean to derail this transfer thread but do tell?

All day and all night mate, never mind I'll live.

All I've heard this window is.

Patterson turned down a move to the PL.

Stewart has no intention of signing his contract.

We're signing a striker who doesn't resemble Stewart but is very quick and suits our style.

    That's everything tbh.

I'm sure what needs to be done will be done, and once the window "slams shut", we can finally concentrate on the team. Personally and it's nothing personal to any player, but I couldn't give a ****e if any of them leave, they all will eventually because they always do and more so the "modle" dictates they will and probably more swiftly. Stuff like "Burnley can f**k off if they want Clarke, he loves it here", sorry like, but if Burnley rock up with 15 million (guess) he will indeed be the one "f**kin off". I love the club but all the speculation about players I've never heard of doesn't have the same impact as it once did. I'm posting this because I've mainly posted silly snippets on this thread apart from the Dancing man about Roberts contract, that still for some reason hadn't made the light of day.

was it a team in white Patto turned down by any chance?

Stwart was never staying was he mate. Blokes got a career plan and intends to stick to it. plan was a PL move but the injury scuppered that so he sees Southampton as the next logical step as they will probably go up.

    AM I BOVVERED?

please log in to view this image

The rumour mill has stepped up dramatically in the last 24 hours with suggestions that Ross Stewart will leave the club before the end of the week. And, as is often the case in football, after the initial feelings of disaster and ruin, we ask the key question… am I bovvered? And, depending on what we get for him and depending who we sign instead, I think the answer is, no. Not especially.

Sunderland and Stewart’s agent have been negotiating a new contract for about 4000 years. Other first teamers, actually let me change that, other first teamers who are attractive to other clubs, have signed contract extensions in that time so it’s not a simple ‘we’re being too mean’ situation or no one would be signing. The evidence suggests that Stewart is planning to run down his contract and get a bumper pay day in a year. A fee now rather than nothing at the end of the season is the better financial option for the club.

But is it the best option on the field? Well, sure, if he returns to his pre-injury form of a goal in every 1.3 championship games, we’d probably be better off keeping him and letting him leave on a free.

But who says he’ll return as he was? In an age of medical miracles, the Achilles tendon is still one of the great weakness of modern sports physiology – the Achilles heel I guess. He could have a permanent weakness, he could be a yard slower, he could be less flexible. We just don’t know. The club has to put a value on that uncertainty – the player valuation equivalent of cashing out early.

It’s worth noting that, in the last four years, Stewart has been out injured for over 365 days. As he ages that is unlikely to improve. Especially as those injuries were all connective tissue related.

When he’s fit and running on all cylinders, he’s a class act but in ten years of professional football he’s got past 25 games in a season on one occasion. That has to be factored in to what he’s worth to us.

For clarity, I hope he stays. I hope his agent stops being a dick and they sign on the dotted line. But if he chooses to go I’ll lose no sleep as long as… and here’s the big problem…

We use the money we get for him to replace him and extend the offering in the squad. We’ve signed two strikers this summer who, evidence suggests, will be great in a couple of years. But we need two strikers now who are ready to go. Not necessarily the 27 year old we’d be selling but certainly players with some experience. Rusyn seems to be one, perhaps an on loan striker is the other? Perhaps the extra wide players were being linked with help us out in there? But, with two days to go, if Stewart goes and two players come in – fine by me.

Finally, while many will say the two aren’t linked, Stewart is, at 27 one of the more experienced members of the squad. I think if he does go this week, it’s essential that Pritchard doesn’t. Not in terms of positional play or the obvious height Pritch brings but rather in terms of a mature head who will attempt to hold up play and bring others in. I can’t see any version of events where we replace that amount of experience in the next 48 hours.

Good thought that in my opinon.

I suppose the alternative is he comes back and gets innjured again. We get nowt.

I think maybe we have to think about the lad a little bit. He has done us well overall. Will be one to look back on fondly. Maybe a good look for us to give him a move here, and the numbers look decent. We are getting a few million for someone we havent seen for 30 odd games.

Fortune favours the brave though, maybe we should gamble on him being back to the best striker in the league in a month.

I'm sure I've posted this before so I'll keep it brief.

I spent 11 years working amongst endless music stars and only a quarter of them left a good impression. When I moved onto film stars the percentage dropped.

    I enjoy talented/determined players while they're here ...

... but I don't often believe they 'get the club' and never want to leave.

BTW, Timothy Spall - absolute tosser <laugh>

I am an exile mate, dont care about his radio ****e.

The lad was a legend in our colours. All I care about. Selfish I know. Try listening to most radio pundits and they dont reallt care about some clubs they played for. Micky Gray seems half arsed and makes up ****, for example.

I don’t think people are taking into account that if we turn down an offer for Stewart and he decides he’s going to leave next summer he will already have one foot out of the door.

Of course he looked decent at this level from the small sample of football we have to judge him off but we can go and get another decent striker and have change for the fee being touted and one who’ll have resale value.
