Just why would we want to spend any Salah money on a 20-year-old crock? Remember Andy Carroll? FSG certainly do.
Utterly bemused. I know United are @ $1bn in debt, but their revenue is still phenomenal (just slightly above ours?) - how are Chelsea chucking around bazillions without giving a **** for FFP? Yes, I know they're not in Europe and United are, but did Chelsea just get a complete re-set on FFP domestically and internationally and their slate wiped clean when the club was sold? Was their slate wiped clean or something?
I've no idea how Chelsea get away with it, but I suspect it will all catch up with them eventually. And Boehly is rich, but not rich enough to keep spending half a billion every season and not get any return on his investment. Chelsea splutters again and he might grow tired.
they are only following one rule. ffp. they are ignoring any business rules like don't make a massive ****ing loss. bohely is doing what Elon Musk would do as the Chelsea owner. no sponsors. no stadium vastly over paid squad. replace people one second after being injured etc.
Should only be Tropical Storm when it reaches us, and I think the path is now going a little south of us... still, North and West of storm is where most rain is, so we'll probably have places flooded around here (we usually do), including the street at the bottom of the hill below our driveway. Got all our 5 gallon jugs topped off with water (and the bathtub) in case power goes out. (power goes out our well can't pump water) - got the chainsaw batteries fully charged to clear up any fallen trees, plenty of shelf stable food, all loose stuff outside has been secured. We're as prepared as we can be.
I don't see how they are following FFP though? Some dude on SkySports was saying after the Caicedo malarkey that had they been in Europe this season they'd have been fined and penalised, but because they sold Mount and Havertz before 1.6.2023 they have wiggle room in the Prem. If they qualify for the CL next season though, apparently they're already too late to not be penalised for FFP there, and they will probably get a big fine (not a ban?). Wish I'd recorded it. The strategy seems to be is to get a massive, massive young squad on contracts for 7/8 years, take whatever fines and penalties come their way for the next few seasons, then it all settles down when anyone over 28 is sold off. I have just one question though - if this worked, why didn't City - or Chelsea under Abramovich when FFP first came in - do it? Have they hit on a secret big-spending formula that can't be touched?
Always thought it crazy to punish overspending by demanding they spend more money in the form of fines. Should be points dropped: 10 point penalty plus 1 point for every 1% you went over FFP.
Did you ever see that Simpson's episode when Ned Flanders' house blew down? Even by Simpsons' standards, utter classic. As a by-the-by, we too in England face huge elemental crises - some poor old couple were drowned in their car in Mossley Hill in Liverpool when they went under a particularly deep dip under a bridge that is known to flood after heavy summer storms - only about 5ft of water though. This resonates with me because @ 40 years ago I failed my first driving test under that bastard bridge - it was slightly flooded (@ 2ft) when I went under it and the hysterical examiner grabbed the wheel because, he said, "Have you no consideration for the pedestrians? You'll drench those schoolchildren!". Fanny. This is about as extreme as it gets over here weather-wise.
konate agent reports he turned down Saudi offer. it seems to me a very concerted effort is under way by the beheaders to boost their tired little club by trying to destroy ours. I note no real effort to go near arsenal yet or utd or much towards city (a little at city but it helped them if anything) all our younger cbs, diaz, salah, older.midfielder and keeper all targeted.
England had some bad flooding in Yorkshire a few years ago didn't it? I'm far enough inland, that usually hurricanes aren't as bad by the time they reach me (although South Carolina hasn't been site of first landfall for a long time. We get Tropical storm winds about once a year here on average and there's frequently Tornados, although closest has been about a mile away). Also get floods periodically, but my house sits about 30' above the road... the bottom of my driveway floods a lot, but my house never has come close- the house is about 150' away from the nearest area that has ever flooded, but the lower parts of our land always flood... actually quite spectacular to go look at the land flooded once the storms end. Really regretting not picking our son up from Uni. He's in Charleston, but back when we were considering it, it looked like storm was more likely to hit us than him, and wasn't expected to be hurricane strength. Now it's pointing right at him and will probably still be just about hurricane strength when it hits. Be more dangerous to be out on the road to get him though than him staying put... so slightly worried about him.
Nat Phillips to celtic on loan? that man (dont call him a lad or a boy) will end up seeing his last 5 years of real career out getting 10k a week at best the way he is carrying on. he has 60k a week to 2025 and has priced himself out of every permanent move to secure that money. his problem is by the time 2025 rolls round he's going to be an old stager pro in relative terms with zero games under his belt and end up in league 2 at best. he's turned down a few real 5 year deals in championship now.
For his sake, hope he can make a go of it at Celtic, get his career back on track, and hopefully provide funds for us.
I don't think it's his fault though. The club seem to value too highly and are rejecting offers for him
It can only work if they players are worth anything when the the time comes to sell. It's all fine if the team was actually good but it's not Abramovich didn't need to do it at all. His dodge was debt to equity in his own asset. City got done for faking accounts so switched to fake revenue. The Chelsea model is so risky that while paper profits are declared each year there's a pile of cash going out that is not being made so debt will pile up. Only time will tell where they end up. If its all going on the club then the fans will eventually figure it out
Gravenberch seems to have legs Bout time a Phillips went, shame only a loan though! Cole Palmer to Chelsea for 45m seems absolutely absurd
