I didn’t think he wanted to come here anyway and difficult to know quite how keen we were for him in particular, or just it worked out the best deal to get a Tella replacement while also paving the way to them buying Tall Paul.
Absolutely. The PA guy was hesitating before pronouncing Sam Amo-Ameyaw, so I'd really like to up the stakes with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
I think he has assumed we are selling Adams, which we likely will, but I don't think he has any knowledge of that deal. Stewart looking likely. We should get him dirt cheap with his contract situation and current injury.
Not with one year left and only limited experience at even championship level he wouldn’t have done. Unless they mean that they believe he would have signed a new contract without the injury - which I am sceptical about Would these be the same Sunderland fans who say that wouldn’t sell Roberts for 20m despite him also having one year left. And that being what Tella went for with two years left and him being one of the best players in the championship last season. Football fans tend to massively overvalue their own players. Even more so when you get to places like Twitter where it starts to get silly Edit : that 15m+ (plus!) figure comes from the first comment below that Twitter. Which is in line with what I was saying. They wouldn’t have got 10m even if he was fit with one year left I know transfermarkt isn’t actually scientific but I have rarely seen a player go for more than 3X his value on that site. And that multiplier is nearly always lower when there is one year left and no intention to extend. 15m would be more than 5X what he is on there for. Now maybe if he wasn’t injured and scored 20 goals last season his based value would be higher. But it still wouldn’t work out
They love signing right backs, think they have 5 now and 1 left back who is probably leaving (Firpo). It’s almost like they don’t realise they exist
Very similar to Kieffer Moore in style apparently. Bit different to Adams/Armstrong but sounds like Onuachu, albeit with some Championship experience
Opening offer of £5m+ turned down by Sunderland. Saints set to come back with a second bid c. £8m. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport...-stewart-sunderland-transfer-resolve-30819890
I feel very glass half empty on this one. Our Adams replacement is a guy with about two months of Championship experience and recovering from a severe injury having not played in about a year?
Much more than that is probably too much given his injury and better to wait for January and try again unless he is closer to fitness than most assume
Not directed specifically at you but let’s be honest - pretty much every actual saints signing has been met with a glass half empty response. And most of the rumoured ones as well. And the ones we’ve never even bid for have been lauded as the second coming and absolutely guaranteed potential successes Downes is pretty much the exception - if you exclude grumbles about no option to buy. I wasn’t reading when Manning was signed but I expect that was positive (and the tide quickly turned on that one it seemed)
Stewart's had a fairly Lambert-esque career up til now, and we signed Rickie at the same age. How's that for glass half full?
I think the “half empty” response is pointing out the second number there. Only played 13 games. Ignoring the former and the ratio But it is also fine for others (not necessarily the same people) to confidently assert that Adams would have got 20+ goals because he got 3 in 3 (not even full games). And that Tella would have definitely recreated his goals and assists return from last season. I don’t actually disagree with the Che assertion. And the most significant concerns are when would Stewart be fit and will be back to how he was? Not the number of games he has played in the championship. And Shandy did mention those in equal prominence.
