Weirdly, both our loanees were involved in matches with shootouts Port Vale won theirs 2-0, if anyone's interested
Apart from the various times in the past ten years where we've been in semi-finals of domestic cups, eh?
Well obviously sometimes you are going to advance to the latter stages using fringe players, get good draws etc.
Postecoglou picked the team and chose the penalty takers. It's on him. He chose to rotate heavily and let an unsuitable player take a key penalty. Lay the blame where it belongs.
I don't agree with this, but it was too early for so much rotation. We've got one more game and then it's the international break. We've got no European football and no real congestion. It was stupid.
Satchez misplaced passes all night ... but did a great pass back to their keeper! Ange has seen what a weak squad we have. None of Skipp, Hoejberg, lo celso Sanchez, Peresic, and Richarlison could complain if they weren't starters again. All 5 could have been subbed at 30 mins tbh. Had a great time watching the spurs fans though.
So you think conte, Jose and Ange, 3 vastly experienced managers are going to let a chairman tell them who they can and can’t play? These aren’t rookie managers. ENIC have been in charge for just over 20 years and been to 6 finals. In the same period previously we got to 7 finals so were the previous owners thinking the same?
The reality is so many of our cup campaigns come crashing to a halt when we play strong sides, but still manage to **** the bed Case in point, go back a couple of seasons where our regular starting xi lined up against Middlesbrough, and on paper you'd expect us to get a couple of goals and sub off a couple of players with 15-20 minutes to go, but instead we were utterly lifeless the entire match while Middlesbrough played their bollocks off and when they scored it was almost a relief as we'd been expecting that for a good twenty minutes by then
Ange Postecoglou defends his team selection and says: "How am I going to find out my players? We need to give the players the opportunity to contribute". ———— But that’s the thing, we don’t need give them opportunities to contribute because we’ve already got an XI that’s been contributing. I can understand changing things when it doesn’t go well, but when we’ve made a very promising start to the league and played exciting football doing it, why bloody change?! And he could’ve just asked any single Spurs fan about Sanchez, Lo Celso etc to know that no one wants to see them play in our shirt.
The main criticism of the lineup was we appeared to be playing more like a 4411, so it wasn't just a change in personnel but also the shape of the team If we retained the shape swapping the players around wouldn't have been such an issue...to a point, anyway, because while some of the changes made a lot of sense there's no getting around that starting both Skipp & Hojbjerg was a clear mistake, and we should've kept Sarr in the starting lineup, and TBH if we were starting Davies we should also have had Porro at RB so we'd have had at least one attacking FB on hand at kickoff
He's a very good professional manager, he's not likely to take previous managers use or fans opinion based on said use as gospel. The man needs to know what players can do for him with his instructions/training.
He’ll see them in training. He’ll have no doubt watched videos of players over the seasons as well. Zero reason or validation to make 9 changes in a cup game against Premier League opposition. He’s had a very bright start and he’s really brought in a ton of positivity but he’s had an absolute stinker of a night.
All managers like to think they can make a difference to players. Sanchez may train really well, Lo Celso apparently has, same with Skipp, Peresic and Hoejberg...so I get why he wanted to give them a game ... he now knows they are at best subs. We play with huge intensity so Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday is too much for the same starting 11 IMHO. However, 9 changes was way too much. Will be amazed if Hoejberg or Skipp ain't sold (probably Hoejberg cos of skipp being home and club grown etc.) Think Richarlison has proved we need a front player... try as he might he is so ineffective. Lo Celso is not capable of playing in physical, fast games so we need him out ASAP too.
Why not, Levy tells them what they can and can`t say, through non disclosure agreements in their contracts, and tells them who they can and can`t sign, so why wouldn`t he tell them to prioritize the top 4 over cups. Every manager under the misery of ENIC does the same thing, mass rotation in the cups, it will be club policy to save the players for the PL, where the money is.
Completely agree, all well and good putting in a few good performances in pre-season against half fit or low calibre sides but we've seen over the years he can't hack English football. Being hauled off today is hopefully a sign Ange realises as such. Striker aside we've got a very decent XI, but beyond that is borderline awful and tonight there was no reason to see as such. At best 2-3 changes to the XI and then with five subs available he can then give others more game time if the opportunity's there to do so but 9 changes with a number of poor-to-average players coming into the side meant we were facing an uphill battle from KO. I really don't understand what he done tonight, very, very poor management. A shame too after how brilliant he's been since coming in.
