Morning everybody. As a supporter of a club that has led the way with anti racism initiatives over the years, i am totally appalled by Mr blatter and his game shake comments! Football fans all over the country should make a stand, either blatter leaves fifa, or we leave fifa! With the talk of break away super leagues and reduction of international matches, what real use is fifa to us anyway? Please have a look at @changefifa on twitter. Would be interested on your views.
I've thought for a long time that Blatter is a relic of a bye gone era and should be replaced. His attitude over these racism claims is disgusting and he should be removed from his position!
Some people seem to be behind the times in what they say and think in Europe and he appears to be one of them. Racism is still an issue and I still hear racist comments/jokes at football matches even though it's rare but the ones I've heard were very offensive. Terry should really have been dropped until the whole issue had been resolved otherwise it seems as though the way he behaved is being condoned. If it was any other industry it would be dealt with far more robustly. I must admire the way Powell has reacted to it and his comments seem to be spot on, not only condemning racism but homophobia in football and recognising that is an issue, unlike some managers or clubs who say nothing about it so well done to him.
I am sick to death about hearing how racist we are as a nation and all the air time given to a comment that was made by an old ******ed passed it relic (JT) and the ones made by Sepp Blater. Racism is in the human psche not football and exist in all walks of life that effect the populus in more damaging ways than football. Try and get a job in Pret a Mange if your speak english to see what i mean and see if the Sandwich Munchers Society show you any support. Why can't we focus on say the real issues in the game, corruption and greed. I mean everyone favourite for next England Manager, Harry Rednapp is up for trial on tax dodging in January, any comments on that? or does he have to defraud etnic businesses to get a mention?
No I am sick of racism and homophobia in football myself having experienced it first hand as well as knowing others who've been subjected to it, so feel I am fully within my rights to comment on it oppose and support others like Chris Powell who also oppose it and speak out against it, just like the thread originator. I am not really interested in your insults on this thread on other people or other companies. I will continue to challenge it at matches where I feel safe to do so and when people are abused because of their race or report it to the authorities. likewise with homophobia and other offensive behaviour.
You do not have to embrace another culture to secure yourself the title NON-RACIST. You do not have to wear a silly sticker on match days or tut and wince when someone does not not grammatically describe another human being according to his correct etnic origin. As i said, I am fed up being told what racist we are when I spend most of my day improving the lifes of those from said background. The Human Being flourished because of its ability to master and control its environment, it did that by pairing off into tribal/etnic groups. That tribal instinct surfaces every now and then in ALL cultures and is something that only can be repaired through evolution. Even then the results are not guarenteed.
Racism should really stop being brought up on this forum. It always ends up going the same way. Although, FIFA in general is a complete disgrace.
I don't really understand the condescending remark or other insults aimed at those who oppose racism or homophobia. If I hear other fans or players being racially abused then I will challenge it. Describing someone's ethnic background followed by an abusive remark is racist as it singles out that person because of their race to cause maximum offence. I don't wear stickers but will continue to speak out against it and will continue to support the club in its efforts as well as Chris Powell and oppose those who condone it.
I don't see why not, Chris Powell made some powerful comments about it and homophobia in football so it's highly relevant.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/charlton_athletic/9631210.stm Here are Chris's comments. Apart from Kick it Out, Red White and Black are there any other campaigns people are aware of?
The Black Footballers' Association. The Association for Black Lawyers. The Black Police Officers' Association. These are racist organsisations which exclude white people because of their skin colour. When will something be done about it? As much as I love Chris Powell, he does periodically talk some crap. He recently said that there should be more black managers. Why should there? Most black managers have been useless.
I am talking about campaigns not organisations but these bodies have made law, the police and football more representative of society at large. I fully agree with Chris Powell, there should be more black managers, if you look at the % of players it is totally under-represented at management level. How many black managers are there, just the two out of all the football clubs, I don't think you can brand most useless when there are so few. There are plenty of ineffectual white ones but from a bigger pool. I have also challenged organisations particularly culturally exclusive ones, where white people are under-represented in different positions. It works both ways and is called diversity.
I agree, Pat, of course there should be black managers - but only if they are good enough, not because of their skin colour. The equal-opps bill states that a certain percentage of positions should go to different ethnic groups - not because they are right for the job, but because of their ethnicity. I can say most black managers have been useless, because it is true. Fact. Why do people have such a problem with the brutal truth?
It isn't true though PondersEnd when there have been so few. The two managing now are relatively successful and how do you judge success when even Paul Ince took a club to promotion but then struggled in the Premiership, perhaps because it was a step too far too soon. There have been far more unsuccessful white football managers than black because there are more of them in management anyway so until more black managers are appointed, it is a misnomer to say they are mostly useless.
Blimey, Pat, you are manipulating the stats. Of course the number of white managers outweighs the number of black managers. That is a fact not needed in this discussion. Just say there had been 5 Chinese managers and 4 of them had been poor at their jobs, you could say that most of the Chinese managers had been rubbish. Not many to judge, granted, but enough to make a statement based on current stats. Hopefully the stats will change as more black managers get the chances. But as it stands, they have been largely unsuccessful. You can only judge on the figures at hand, so not really a misnomer, Pat.
Last season I took my daughter and four of her school mates to the Exeter game. Two of them were black and they absolutely loved it. Unfortunately their parents can't afford it every week, but they do go periodically. I pay for them sometimes if I have a bit of spare cash knocking about. Perhaps it is a financial issue as most black families live in the more deprived areas of London? However, I think the club should applauded for the amount of tickets that they give to school children in the area.
Not really, it isn't a bit like saying that most women lorry drivers are useless when there are very few of them and it's just a sweeping generalisation that implies lorry drivers who are women are useless. I couldn't say they are rubbish because it's too few a number when as you know the number of clubs with managers is far, far greater than the number of managers who happen to be black. It is too small a statistic on which to base any reasoned rational argument. However can you name all the useless managers who happen to be black, I would be most interested in the names of those who are useless, how long they've been in management, what you base this assumption on, and how they compare with their white counterparts?
