100%. But we know it hasn’t and won’t happen. In same way Joelinton asked for TAA and vvd to be carded and didn’t get a yellow. Despite that being clamped down on and Mac being given s yellow in the first game of the season.

    Referees obviously think it is.

As for Virgil, it was in the ref's report so it has to be addressed. I don't think anyone expects cards to be given for swearing on the pitch, as you say you'd end up carding nearly everyone. But .. if the ref has pulled you up, carded you or not, don't make the situation any worse.

Very disappointing but we knew it would happen. Doesn't mean we should just accept it either though. He SHOULD have been punished.

Longer term I'd love to see that happen, it's part of my argument for the refs to be mic'd up. Players would have to respect officials just like in rugby.

Definitely not right now though as it's not truly a thing

Tbh I don’t get the whole thing about swearing anyway. It’s a word… it doesn’t mean anything. Just someone has decided it’s a bad word and we’re meant to be offended by them

    I agree.

Dissent has always been an offence though so even if no words were used, the dissent takes the same place as foul and abusive language. Again, it's the inconsistency even within that one game. As much as we dislike it, players will never get the better of the officials.

As much as I agree, it exists and is a thing. We can't just eliminate issues because we don't see the point of it, the world would be a lot more peaceful if we could <laugh>

Their blind eye is otherwise occupied, pointed firmly at the incompetence of the officials.
However, I agree with Z inasmuch as I've said all along that I don't like to see players screaming abuse at the officials - the problem is that here, like in so many other ways, they're entirely inconsistent.
However, however, although Virgil was foul-mouthed, he wasn't as directly belligerent as players often are.
Players should respect the position of the ref, but it becomes hard when the individuals holding that position aren't as deserving as they ought to be.
It's a mess, and both sides are similarly culpable - if Webb is serious he should be making an effort to ensure better understanding and communication between both sides rather than routinely defending the officials no matter what.

Doesn’t help that is came a week after vvd’s team mate was sent off for an absolute nothing tackle as proven by the successful appeal.

But its meaning is loaded. Try going up to someone in a pub and telling them to "**** off" and let's know how you get on.
Alternatively, put yourself on the receiving end - wouldn't you feel threatened?
Yes, mates do it amongst themselves all the time, but it's understood that it's meant in a good-natured way. It's specifically meant to signify comradeship because you can talk to each other in a way that would otherwise be considered hostile and challenging if delivered by anyone outside of your group.

To say "someone has decided it's a bad word" is disingenuous. Swear words, like blasphemy (in the past, less so today) are specifically employed to shock - it's the whole point of them. Repeated use has over time drawn the sting a little, but no-one ever sat down and "decided" to be offended by them.

Slightly different issue but in a similar area off rules and should still have been dealt with...

The Newcastle players surrounded the referee asking for that second yellow for Trent. They should have all been booked under the new rules, they weren't. Liverpool players did it after the VVD red card too but the precedent had been set. Didn't make it right though

I've always said, no specific rules has ever bothered me greatly, but the inconsistency in enforcement always has.

I'm also not going to say we're unfairly targeted by refs... Some refs maybe, and sometimes maybe... But all in all I'm sure everything balances out... But it does sting extra when bad or something inconsistent refereeing is used against you.

Still is in the Southern US. A lot of people here are more offended by "oh Hell", "Jesus Christ!" Or "Goddamn" than they are any "****s" or "****s."

They’re also more offended if you say that guns are bad though so

Yeah... And the crossover there is large. If you're offended by an inappropriately placed "oh Christ" odds are you probably don't want anyone coming for your guns.

Guns are pretty polarizing though. There is a very large minority who want to make guns much harder to get, if not eliminated entirely.

If the standard tariff is three games, Virgil will get 6. Remember, Suarez got double the ban that Terry got for the same crime despite, unlike Terry, there being actually no physical evidence about what Suarez said apart from that he admitted.

    It's T-shirt time again.

It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking the refs are against you.

The truth is they are generally just abit ****, they've got the ultimate tool in var to help themselves, but they use it, to cover there own arses rather help make the correct decisions.

The new objectives that are released ever season, that are rigorously enforced for 3 weeks then forgot about make the start of every season a trial.

Alot of the **** could be avoided by a quick sentence 'can you check' to the var official, but they'd rather appear to be as infallible as possible.

The abuse they get is wrong, but is there an other profesion where you are allowed to continually get decisions wrong with no repercussion
