Yes mate. In theory it could as late as Jan 2025, but most likely before. Could be called anytime by the govt, and my bet would be they opt for October time as economy likely be back to pre covid levels and ths tories will want to go in with some form of tax cut pledge.
Thanks mate, i try not to get involved with politics as its such a divisive subject. If someone formed a party that sat right in the middle and actually cared for all the country from the worst off to the well off fairly and was honest then I'd vote for them
I was thinking it should be similar to say a chief exec of a council as it’s as important. I do think it’s fair for MPs reasonably distant from London to have overnight accommodation paid for for long days and travel cos they still have to have a home, but no perks, no ‘executive’ class meals, no bar, ay for your dinner, Dont have dodgy dealings or external share value investments. Pause other business dealings. Do that instead if being cash rich means more than running the country right. It isn’t the same thing
Another week in this disastrous corrupt shambles of a government ... ... a fanatical Boris supporting Tory MP calls the PM a zombie while he's doing shady deals with an Indian company his wife is involved in. It's becoming more of a political comedy than ...
Why does this government keep making promise after promise they know they can't keep ... ... it's like they're desperate to get out of the mess it's taken thirteen years to create. It's as if they've realised it can't be fixed and want it off their hands. "Police must investigate every theft and follow all reasonable leads to catch offenders, the home secretary has said." "Data shows that, in the year to March, just 4.4% of all theft offences resulted in someone being charged." Ms Braverman told BBC Breakfast: "There is no such crime as minor crime - whether it's phone theft, car theft, watch theft, whether it's street-level drug-dealing or drug use, the police must now follow every reasonable line of inquiry."
No wealth tax for Labour. Gone is the 45p top rate tax pledge of Starmer (any of his leadership pledges left?). At least Reeves has the decency to tell us I suppose. I quite liked the 45p top rate, shame. All the money we need coming from economic growth apparently, unlikely.
Braverman dishing out orders - without understanding they need a back up of a) more police b) a judiciary that will support the police efforts and not just let people off c) more prisons ( with full review/ discussion of punishment/rehabilitation balance)
The reality is that the police will ignore her and keep giving out incident numbers over the phone ... ... which will just keep pushing up our insurance premiums. Braverman has let herself down though, where's the traditional three word slogan, how about 'Blame the Cops' ... ... which is basically what she's doing.
Look at the abhorrent amounts people earn man. It’s ridiculous they don’t pay more tax. Even more the business duckers and divers using dividends need sorting out. People earning millions out of owning multiple care homes for example paying **** wages and minimal tax to staff while the cost of social care spirals. At least if we got their money back in to the system we’d have less of a crisis
I think a wealth tax would work if applied properly - on inherited wealth. Plenty of rich kids never done a day's work in their lives because their great great grandad made the money for them, and they'll pass it on to their own lazy spawn. We absolutely should not be taxing people extra who've made their own money.
A number of ways to implement wealth taxes for me. Politicians of all sides seem to cosy up to business leaders and people with money, then not much later we see these sorts of social policies watered down or removed altogether. I would welcome the increase to the 45p rate too he was all for. I understand the counter arguments, but in an economy like ours it seems worthwhile to me. Even just a semse those with the broadest of broad shoulders are paying a bit more is sensible I think. I think the mood amongst a lot of high earners is an acceptance paying more is necessary. I will wait to see what the plans for economic growth are, and I like Reeves so she gets a chance with me, but I would have liked to see a bit more commitment in this area.
I find this massively upsetting: Ministers propose scrapping pollution rules to build more homes https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66642878
