Sadly that's probably why it's happening faster for you than for us. He's got less to play with to buy time. If your main assets are players, that's what he'll sell off. And EFL are totally incompetent, you only need to see how they went on with the COVID curtailed season or imposing a salary cap. Some clubs get absolute lickings off them, and you feel that they just lie in wait to hammer some clubs, yet others get away with murder. Coventry don't own their ground, had to play "home" games at Northampton and Birmingham because of disputes they caused with their landlords, couldn't start last season properly because they didn't look after the pitch following the two day rugby sevens tournament at the commonwealth games, yet get away without even a slap on the wrist.
Feel for you guys, always had a lot of time for charlton and your fans. From what ive been told you guys have some real talent in your academy currently n unfortunately thats seen as easy money by methven. Players will be sold for low amounts with no sell on clauses inserted, teams higher up the pyramid will know they can do this as it happen when he was at us He is too stubborn to change his way so itll be his way n unfortunately the only way for you guys to progress is by him leaving the club within nxt 12 months
I'd be very worried if I was a Charlton fan tbh. You've got a twat who owns the club and another twat who owns the stadium. Not a good situation to be in at all. Anything of any sort of value will be sold off and stripped back to the bone. We still haven't recovered our off the field stuff here after they got rid of a load of staff. If you have a lot of young kids in your first team, how are you getting on with the u21/u18? Anybody with a bit of potential will be sold on, no doubt about it.
Genuinely sorry to hear that mate. No club deserves a dodgy chancer on the make like him, and Charlton are a decent, proper club who have had more ****e than sugar down the years. Id noticed the results had been poor, but that's all I knew. But it's like night following day. I'd be amazed if it turns out well with him. More realistically, I just hope you get a decent owner in and get rid of him and anyone connected to him. The day he left here was the day the clouds lifted and we saw some light.
How can this possibly happen? What the hell do the efl actually check? They bend over for premier league cash, then let lunatics ruin the lower league clubs It's a disgrace,
Cheers for all the replies. Very worrying times for us I’m afraid. Lots of (what should be) confidential information being leaked to a big Charlton internet forum and fed to fans, who some unfortunately believe what is being said. Of course it’s all pro-regime and talk of a four window plan etc etc, but anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that there’s no money and it’s all BS. Our academy churns out talent after talent as we have a huge catchment area of South London to recruit from, but it’s clear that we will soon have to start selling those players to try to balance the books without any additional owner input to buy new players. As you all know it’s a repeat of what happened to you, but as we don’t own the ground or training ground anymore and have lower ticket revenue I can’t see us attracting the sort of owners that you now have. Our new owners had to show two years of running costs to get EFL approval, but after those two years are up I think we will be screwed.
Your two years of running costs will be covered by selling anything that's not nailed down. He will try and get the fanzines onside, he will feed them bullshit to get them to support his narrative. Its easy to tell when he's lying/bullshitting though....his lips will be moving.
That's pure Methven. Either himself or getting someone to do it for him, sadly some people will fall for it. Look out on your forums for new members being very pro owners, there's a good chance it's him or someone doing it for him. And he will be looking at all your forums/twitter pages/Facebook sites to see how things are going down. Your last paragraph pretty much nails his and Donald's time here. Provide proof of funds to run the club for a couple of years, funds which have to be kept in escrow. The try and either flip the club to new buyers (making a tidy profit out of it) or try and get new investors in. The billionaire backers he's talked about probably loaned him the money to buy the club and provide the escrow funds for a couple of years, and will expect a profit on their investment if they aren't into the day to day running. The worry will be what if they can't get a profit then, will they take over the club and asset strip further to get their money back?
Oh dear, he's actually following the way he operated here. I'm honestly sorry for what your about to go through
Any potential new manager should have a good long think before hitching up with Methven. Their chances under this guy will be so limited.I really hope Super Kev's head isn't turned by this fraud, his CV isn't bad now now (albeit at lower level) but a spell with Methven could end what ambitions he had. I guess this chancer is sniffing out another opportunity to make a quick buck. I feel really sorry for Charlton fans, they deserve better than this
****ing hell, so you have 3 different owners? One for club, one training ground and one for the stadium? I genuinely wish you all the best but that sounds like things could go south very quickly.
I was going to ask him if the Dortmund model has been mentioned but thought I better leave that one alone.
No it’s much more complicated than that !! The Valley and Training ground were owned by Roland Duchatelet (a previous owner) who despises the fans, but he has allegedly handed over control to his son (who is presumably also not a fan of the fans). The team was sold for £1 to some crooks, who fleeced us and was then sold again, eventually being wrestled from extinction by Thomas Sandgaard who saved us, but then employed his son and partner in roles they weren’t qualified to do (and in the latter case allegedly had no visa to work in the UK). We were recently bought by SE7 partners who are controlled by Global Football Partners, who are a registered company in the Cayman Islands and there are allegedly at least seven owners of that company, but no one really knows who they are or aren’t, because Cayman Island companies don’t have to give any details whatsoever of directors or shareholders. What could possibly go wrong ?
They’ve offered it to Darren Ferguson and Chris Powell so far and both have turned the job down. Alan Curbishley will probably be next - with the same result no doubt.
