Chris Houghton was the guy that won the championship with Brighton back in 2017 I think and kept them in the prem for a couple of seasons but was bottom feeding so Houghton was sacked and Potter came in who steadied the ship and kept them in the prem but nothing special. He was then able to bring in a couple of players and play Potterball and slowly Brighton were becoming hard to beat. Recruitment, coaching and sound business did the trick and look where they are now
Exactly but some want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend those players have gone away. Hay has already said this years parachute payments are gone on meeting the payments due on all those players. Either way as Ive explained, personally I only enjoy Leeds winning or competing. Our promotion season from League 1 was brilliant, whereas our last two in PL was diabolical. Just my thoughts, don't expect others to share them
They'd be sent back out on loan or sold (prolly as a loss). That isn't great but there are £210 million (£120 mill + £90 mill in parachute payments..and thats worse case scenario btw) reasons why going up this season is beneficial than the £30 million we get if we don't go up. That's the financial difference. Its huge and part of the reason why I'm moaning about parts of the team (GK and Defence) not been good enough THIS season. In my mind we have 2 seasons to get up but THIS season is the one where we can give it a real go.
Great point Doc as many have forgotten how Brighton we're struggling to stay up for a good few years and even in Potter's first season they flirted with relegation. Basically it took them 5 years of PL money and status before there they were able to grow as a club. However ultimately it was the recruitment of Potter who changed the playing style that made the difference as they were going nowhere under the more pragmatic football that Houghton employed. By comparison we we're only in our second season when we brought in a coach who's style can only be best descibed as a swarm tactic and as a consequence ripped up all the good work of the previous 3 seasons. That's why it was difficult to blame the players before the World Cup as they were rigidly following tactics that don't work in the PL. Yes ultimately in the end those players let us down but the club/board/fans were in chaos by then and if they'd had Farke (for example) as their coach from the beginning of last season I'm pretty sure we'd have seen a different outcome.
RedBullBall doesn’t work in the Prem a proven fact. Ralf H tried it at Southampton and after a season of ok results the other teams were able to counter it and after a couple of seasons they were struggling. Even the top REd Bull coach could only make himself look stupid at Man Utd, Wagner did ok until he got into the prem and he soon lost his job. The only way RedBullBall works in the prem is when the coach is clever enough to adapt it like Klopp who was banging on about how good Ragnick was going to be at Man Utd but he was shyte. Klopp adapted parts of it and made it work but Marsch wasn’t clever enough to do that he only confused his players, the players who had been with him before…..
I’m not forgetting those out on loan. It’s because of them we need promotion as soon as. They are still contacted to us whether we are PL or EFL. I have no real desire for them to return, but we needed to offload their salaries. I didn’t appreciate the lack of effort seemingly shown by them, so would prefer them to move on. I enjoy the thought of being competitive, however PL for me. We just need a better constructed squad, with proper financial support when needed.
Rather be in the Premier League competing in the top half and going for Europe and domestic cup. Build on that. New stadium more tickets available, bigger fanbase. MOT
They're away at Chelmsford I think, too far. Going Saturday as they are at home again (Weston-super-Mare). They're not doing very well at all. I've 'Jim'll Jinxed' it by going . Truro bought Ebed Yeboah on for the last 15 mins on Saturday. Not too good for the lad, needs a bit of speed to his game, Tried a few long shots. Thought Ebed was Yorkshire for 'I'm going upstairs to sleep'. You going to a local match today?
You can't loan a player if he refuses to go. As for selling them good luck with that. We might get a few quid for Harrison but nothing for the other below average shyte. First time i saw Rasmus play i jnew he was not good enough. Fook me he was slower than Ayling.
Brighton are doing well but realistically they are a feeder club for the oil etc money teams and have won the square root of zero. Leicester's don't really happen, most teams are there to make up the spectacle and stand virtually zero chance of winning anything whilst taking numerous batterings from those money clubs. Any team can win any match in the championship.
From what I can see there are plenty of PL clubs are spending absolute fortunes and not really going anywhere, Chelsea Man U Liverpool Could add Arsenal, Newcastle and Villa as well. Good luck to them but the mistake we made was not getting the £80M + we should have got for Raphinha and until we learn to properly play the game we'll always be light years behind.
