And that's just the start mate. I don't mind Charlton, and you really don't deserve Methane, but League 2 beckons imo. He's a parasite.
Wow ..sure some apologists said that behaviour was more SD and Methven fell out with him. Sounds like they were on the same page all along.
Be good if we get Charlton away in the cup ... ... we can have a joint. Sorry, the cat just woke me up and I'm a bit dozy, we can have a joint pitch invasion ... ... I was in one before at the Valley, early 80's iirc.
I was there and it happened in the 70s, we beat them 2-1, I had a chisel pulled on me outside the ground, and I met Sammy, The King of The Fulwell for the first time, I was later to end up in a job working with his brother
Can't say we didn't try and warn you lads, it's just a pity the league is run so poorly in the management department. Looks like a long hard season ahead.
Terrible news, the fa really need to improve the fit and proper test. The bloke had form for it here and is doing it again at Charlton, god help them. On the plus side, we could probably get Miles Leaburn of them for a bag of footballs and some bibs
The trouble is that, although we warned you, in a caring way, there's now't that you could have done to avoid it anyway. All that we can do is wish you well, and hope that your luck changes a.s.a.p. Charlton F.C. could go on Netflix . . . . that's how Kyril Dreyfus found out about S.A.F.C.'s plight
Yeah late 70's sounds right. The atmosphere was edgy and word went round that Millwall had come over. Some of the Sunderland lads tried to get to them at half time, under the main stand, but the police drove them back. At full time they came onto the pitch and ran towards our end. We all went on but let them run the length of the pitch before tackling them One of our well known lads chased their top man outside the ground and he jumped onto a moving bus to get away ... ... our fella jumped on after him, gave him a few clouts and jumped off!
Sammy got kicked to **** trying to get back on the bus, the bastard bus driver locked the door so he couldnt get on
He was a great character but took a few blows in his 'career' ... ... he once left the Scunthorpe pub, we were in, to attack the Leeds Service Crew who'd turned up. We felt obliged to go out and help, no fun whatsoever but he was loving it
Yes, he seemed totally unconcerned of the scrapes and bruises he had taken, a really nice lad but very easily led astray, picked me and my mate up in an icecream van (he wasnt driving) after a match up at the **** tip one boxing day, we ended up in The Continental, Sammy ended up in the cells that night after kicking 2 plate glass doors out
How's things in the ticket office, they love sacking people in the ticket office? Do yous come out to hard-core rave/dance music on a match day? Charlie will proclaim Charlton are hemorrhaging money.
Why does this sort of **** only seem to happen to good honest working class sort of clubs? It's almost as if the Toff's target them for a bit of asset stripping!
It’s all a bit of a game to them. No concern (or probably, understanding) about the heart and soul of football.
Yep. It seems you're following the same pattern we did, though maybe a bit faster. The manager sacking is throwing someone under the bus as a distraction to try and take some heat off him (sacking Jack Ross here after the FPP takeover fell through up here). Corners will be cut, they'll be redundancies and expect some commercial contracts to come in that'll hold you back for a while. Any maintenance/improvements on your ground and training ground will be cut back to the bare minimum. Signing crocks, players past it, loans and untried kids was definitely something we did under them (Kazia Sterling from Spurs and Kyle Lafferty, for example), but wait until you get the wasters like Chris Maguire and Will Grigg. Your more promising young players will get sold off to raise money, mostly for less than you'd expect, but don't be surprised if one of your better players is sold at very short notice. The story from George Honeyman was that the first he knew about his transfer to Hull was when they called him to say Hull had made an offer for him that they'd accepted (sounds like the first one) and to basically come in and clear out his locker and say his goodbyes. I can't say anymore than I really sympathise with you. But at least if you have some idea of what's coming you can prepare and hopefully take action on it. And just as a side note, here's an anecdote about Methven I was told about a few months ago. Whether it's true or not, I don't know, so take it however you feel about it. Apparently during the FPP takeover negotiations, Methven met them and was taking them to the SOL. As they were getting close to the ground he asked if he could borrow £20 off one of them so he could pop into the Colliery Tavern as he fancied a pint.
Yep, definitely seems like we’re following the same ‘plan’ as you had. Only it’ll be worse for two main reasons; 1) although decent (but dwindling) we don’t have the same income from ticket sales as you have 2) we don’t own The Valley any more and have to pay around £1/2M in rent each year to a former owner, who sold the club to some sharks for £1 but conveniently kept the assets of the ground and the extensive training facilities. Why that was allowed to happen by the EFL is a complete shame on them and nearly led us to a Bury FC fate.
Methven once referred to Sunderland fans who watched games in the pub insead of paying at the stadium as "parasites". Truth is he is the biggest parasite of them all. He is an opportunistic infection of a human being who preys on clubs when they are least able to fight off his "help".
