I cant put my finger on where he plays best. I expected a bit more yesterday if I am honest. He has some lovely technical qualities and I wonder if he needs 20 games to understand how to use them in mens football. Not sure yet he is ready to get that here. A loan may be best for him, with a Jan recall. Somewhere in league 1 where they play football, maybe a Wigan or a Derby.

When has our crossing or deadball delivery ever been good? Its a joke TBH. I shudder when Pritchard steps up to take a corner, and I like him as a player, he is just gash at dead ball situations

Agreed, however, to be an "impact" sub, he has to make an impact when given the chance.

Sadly, I am yet to see that from him and think he needs a run of U21 games and intensive coaching to get the best out of him.

    Just my opinion of course.

    MOWBRAY ON STRIKER LATEST

please log in to view this image

After the draw at Coventry, Tony Mowbray spoke again about the need to sign a striker before deadline day, to give the team a bit more killer instinct up front.

    STRIKER-LESS
"We're always disappointed when we don't score. We went through the whole of last season, just about, without strikers and we continue to do that. If there's an excuse for us as a team, it's that we don't have a killer - a number nine, a centre-forward."

    WILL WE BUY ONE?
"I'm not sure we will by the end of the window, because they are not falling off trees are they? It's really hard to find them or to prise them away and get them out of clubs. We just need a little bit of help at the top end of the pitch."

    NOT INVOLVED MUCH
"You know the situation at this football club. I am not at the forefront of getting [players] in. We might go in to work tomorrow and there might be someone sitting there and I'll shake his hand and say 'right, you're the big guy that we're playing up front, right?' I'm part of the discussions, part of a group of people, but I'm not doing the workings, making the calls, having the conversations with people."

    RECRUITMENT
"I think the recruitment department has been amazing at this football club. Before my time, Stuart Harvey recruited amazingly well to get out of League One and they recruited amazingly well to finish in the play-off positions last year. I know it's not through a lack of focus or dedication to the job that we have found it difficult to supplement the strikers we already have."

    STRIKERS AT THE CLUB
"We do have Ross Stewart who will be ready not long after this international break, we do have Eliezer [Mayenda] who is powerful and dynamic and quick and he should be ready not too long after the international break, and then we have Hemir who came on today, so it's not as if we don't have any striker at the club, we just have to get them fit and get them on the pitch."

    STRESSED AND FOCUSED
"I'm not overly involved in it, but I can feel the stress of the people who are involved in it because it is not easy. With a week to go, I'm pretty confident in knowing that this club is focused on what is needed to help a good team become a very good team. Let's see what the week brings."

    COVENTRY THOUGHTS
"The game panned out a little bit different than I thought - I thought we'd come here and dominate possession like we did last year against them, yet they were good against us in the first half and picked us off really and pushed us back. I was disappointed at half-time and we readjusted a few things and we were better in the second half. We got into some good positions and it was just the final ball that wasn't quite there today, as we could say in most of the games this season. In the first three games, we averaged 68 percent possession and got in behind teams so many times but just couldn't find the pass to put the ball in the back of the net. It was a bit like that in the second half today. You could always feel Coventry's threat, they look like they know where they are going with the ball when they get it. They are a menace and I thought our concentration was good today."

That should put paid to these fantasies about Mowbray concocting a 0-0 draw to send a coded message to the club or whatever ...

    ... should but probably won't.

I think people need to accept the club are trying their best to bring in the players we actually need, I know it's frustrating but I don't think very many of us have had to try and sign a professional footballer so we really don't have any idea what it involves, however it's really easy to criticise when we aren't getting what we want

The you tube clip I posted was a not very good attempt at humour regarding the 'tomorrow' comments.

The club have till Friday at 11pm to finalise the squad, if by then we are still short then questions can be raised.

Until then it's just a case of passing the time with rumours, speculation and guessing

Think Larsson was the last decent set piece taker we had. Maybe Geeds

I agree. It is probably easy to sign players like we did with Grigg. Just throw money around and play it like it is a computer game. I daresay the club get called every day and are offered strikers. We have a clear profile of the players we want though, and wont deviate from that easily. I respect that to be honest. If were to get to Friday and panicked and brought in someome who doesnt fit our style of play, or doesnt have the right mentality and personality, it could just as easily mean we are worse off as a squad, than if we dont bring one in. I am confident enough we will bring one in, but if not it wont be for the want of trying according to Mowbray anyway.

I have given Pritchard the benefit of the doubt on set pieces as at times he has been trying to find players much smaller than defenders. That said he doesnt really inspire confidence when he is over a corner in particular. Embleton is probably the best corner taker at the club, but you cant pick a player just for that.

If it were me I would be putting someone like Cirkin on one side and Roberts on the other. I would simplify corners for both and we either go near post or between penalty spot and 6 yard line. Practice and practice in training hitting the area and let the attackers do the rest. Corners are the one part of the game where innovation is hard to come by. Whip it in with pace and try and head the bugger.

I remember seeing Ba come off the bench last season and thinking he was gonna become a big player for us. I think it was the 2 0-0 home games back to back against Preston and Blackpool around October think him n michut replaced Neil and Evans both times but it seems like he has gone backwards and is now seen as a wide man rather than a CM. Thought he might push on after his random start against Norwich away when he scored but like I say he seems to be less effective than when he arrived which is a shame. Think a loan out would be a good thing and see what he comes back like but honestly I'm close to writing him off

Re: Ba, I recall a lot of "fans" wanted Ekwah shipped out after one game cos he made a mistake. Coming on here and there for 15-20 mins means a player is never going to be able show his best. Just my humble opinion of course.
I dont think he will get that here so if he is shipped out I cannot see him coming back.

Just a bit of a left field suggestion, but I wonder if anyone as considered Neal Maupay at Everton. He fits our waifs and strays profile, only 27 years old so should be in his prime. I presume he would be on silly money, but for a loan fee similar to what we want to pay for Cannon, and to get them to stump up most of his wage, to me it’s good all round. Frees a place and some wages up in their squad and gives us an experienced striker with a point to prove.
