Sneaky one, City's first ever manager, John Bowman, became the first of 14 men to both play and manage the club. Time to do the hard(er) ones BB.
Can't find any evidence of Bowman actually playing a game for us. Agree he was "on the books" as a player, but did he actually play any games, before becoming the manager in 1905.I remember it well.
Tuppence farthing to get in as I remember. . Remember, these are not my questions so I have to take the source on faith.
Query on the quiz. Did the players have to be currently at Norwich, or could they be former or future players when incidents occurred. Just asking for a friend
Sorry, but had a lot of health problems with the family, and don't really have the time or inclination at the moment
Just seen the football score for 3rd September 1939, the day after war was declared. Arsenal won with a first division high attendance of 20,00. We drew as a to some little Suffolk team with and attendance of 10,000. Cardiff had division high of 20,000. Boscombe ? beat Northampton 10-0.. I have always believed that football attendances were massive in bygone years. Obviously this is not so. Birmingham also had the days big of 20,000.
Stadiums were a lot smaller then, so 20k was pretty good. Villa Park was the biggest ground in and around B'ham, where I grew up. Had to queue on many occasions, as it was all pay at turnstile in those days
The Nest apparently had a record attendance of around 25,000 in 1935. (The highest attendance at Carrow Road is 43,984 in 1963, obviously before all-seater stadiums became the norm)
My great grandfather on my mum's side used to watch Norwich at The Nest in the early 1930s. That side of the family moved away, but still kept following Norwich, my dad got into football when he settled in Norwich and started work at Norwich Union in the 1970s. I don't think I would get a choice growing up. I think it was Norwich or I was out on the streets. What was the first Norwich game any of you saw? Mine was Norwich 1-0 Crystal Palace in 1995. My wife (who was originally from Thailand) first saw Norwich Vs West Ham in a friendly, but her first competitive match was the crazy 3-2 against Bolton in 2018 when we traveled from Aus for my sister's wedding. She didn't quite expect the raor when Norwich scored their first but the Pukki last minute goal went mental with the rest of us.
I can't remember my first match but know it was in 1961 when on leave from the RAF, which I joined in 1960 as an apprentice electronics engineer.
