Black mark against Cresswell for the last goal we conceded as well I'm afraid. Brought on in stoppage as right back in place of Ayling and dived in to try and nick the ball when he should have held off. His man nicked it past him and then slotted it into the far corner. Needs to show much better awareness than that.
For the own goal, if I'm Rodon I want my keeper screaming for that cross or at least screaming leave it as it wasn't going anywhere. Hard to tell if Meslier shouted but he should command that area for me. If its dangerous then scream "away". If there wasn't any danger then shout "keepers". Meslier is the eyes in goal. I blame his lack of communication over Rodon attempting to deal with it. I've a feeling Darlow would have been much more commanding.
Hopefully they come back in for him then this week. Doubt it though as they've already signed two full backs so I'd guess they're not interested.
Couldn’t get the streams to work so can’t really comment other than a keeper needs more than make a couple of good saves. He needs to marshal his defence and Meslier seems to lack this.
Rodon was in the ideal position to deal with the cross (in front of the near post). Virtually every centre half who's ever played the game takes up that front post posiiton and then blocks crosses out for corners all day long. Unforunately it sliced off his foot and into our goal so no blame whatsoever can be attached to Meslier.
Yes, I agree. And I do think that Meslier still needs to be much more demonstrative and vocal in marshaling our defence. But I was encouraged to see him looking more confident today because towards the end of last season he just looked as though he was lost. Sort of like a punch-drunk boxer. Today, like the rest of the team, he seemed to play with some renewed belief. I hope that's down to the manager. I think that Farke is the best manager we have had since Bielsa. Maybe at last we have found a worthy successor to the great man.
All the streams were working today. If you couldn't get on you need to change your settings. I've had to add the links to my allow list on Malwarebytes and Bitdefender, as well as AdBlock Plus. Sometimes, when you click on a linked a popup appears. Click on the link again, and the match will appear. It's just their way of advertising.
Wasn’t suggesting we should change for him fella. And Not sure what part of ‘never looked good for us’ would suggest I thought he’d played well for us. I’ve Pointed out regularly why looking good at Cardiff and Luton doesn’t mean it would necessarily work at Leeds. To be honest, I have no idea why we loaned him to sides who play different formations to us.
I think the team deserve a lot of credit for keep their nerve in the second half, and battening down the hatches. They were all over us for the first 25 minutes of the second half. Sinisterra's strike absolutely finished them off. I agree regarding Rodons position. He was OK. Just a bad contact but a ball between the defender and a keeper is very hard to deal with. What saves the day is communication. The defender is facing his own goal. The keeper should be aware of where the attackers are because he is facing the entire pitch. That's why goalkeepers HAVE to communicate to their defence. The literally have to dictate to their defenders what they are needed to do because a keeper can see everything. Today, Rodon could have easily left that ball and Meslier was actually diving to collect the ****ing thing. There was no danger. We had plenty of men to clear that ball. So why did Rodon feel the need to try and block the ball if there wasn't any need to? I'll have a guess. He wasn't told by his keeper to leave it. If he was told it wasn't loud enough. That's because we have a very meek goalkeeper. Hate to use this example but can you imagine a scum defender going for that whilst Peter Schmeichel was in goal? David Seaman? Nigel Martyn? Les ****ing Sealey? Sorry, Meslier at fault for not communicating today.
You're bonkers if you think Meslier was coming to collect that cross. Rodon is on the 6 yard line and Meslier is a couple of feet off the goal line which means it was going between them if Rodon doesn't play it. No goalkeeper on the planet would call for Rodon to leave it as the decision to play the ball or not was solely Rodon's in this instance
Praise to Farke today having the balls to play new man Piroe from the start as well as Gnonto and Sinisterra who had question marks over them
Mate, he's 6ft 5in. He's falling on that ball as the ball is getting closer to the goal. It's not pulled back is it. Rodon cannot see what is behind him. He doesn't know if there is an attacker coming in to the 6 yard box because it's all behind him. The one person who knows there is no danger of a striker getting on the end of that cross is Meslier because he has been watching the whole thing unfold IN FRONT of him. The keeper HAS to convey that information to his defence. It's really basic stuff. If all the Leeds players just froze in place when the guy crosses it then we don't concede. It just passes by the goal and away. What makes Rodon think he has to go for it? Because he thinks a striker might be behind him so without any other information given to him he has to stretch for the ball and try and block it. If the keeper actually had any awareness, he would know that cross was either his to pick up or it was just going to pass everyone by. If he didn't know that then his game awareness is ****. If he was aware of that but didn't clearly get his message across then its negligence. I played sweeper keeper in a pub league on a Sunday to help a mate out for a season and I can guarantee that if I'd have been in goal today we wouldn't have conceded that first goal. It really is a basic error of communication between the two players but on this occasion its the keepers job to command that situation. Pure and simple. Pub league stuff. Darlow doesn't concede there.
Away for the weekend so didn't see game but that forward line will undoubtedly score goals it's obviously concerning that we are looking like a version of Keegan's toon from yesteryear where they had to score 3 or 4 to win.... exiting no doubt but ultimately no prize.....oh and to round of the day Everton sit bottom gutted
Nicely picked freeze frame. You're turning in to Billy which is a new low even for you. Dude crosses it with his right foot btw so it's curling towards the goal. It's a poor cross to be fair. How does Meslier get beat at his front post from there if he's not moving out to the cross? If he's not coming to get the cross then what the **** is he doing lol? Nothing? If so that's a problem. A keeper doing nothing with a low cross in his 6 yard box. Which of the thousand Ipswich attackers are going to put it in the net?
