I may have missed another thread on here but i was underwhelmed by the lack of effort of most of city players last night. It was a home game. LR talks big but getting the best out of players is poor. Out thought by one plan in the cup and questionable tactics and team selection. Leicester game likely to expose LR limitations and probability of top six finish
Not sure Leicester away is the right game against which to measure our top 6 credentials. I see that game as a free hit
Wow. We must have been watching different games. The vast majority of his corners in my view have been woeful, and I’m genuinely surprised others see it differently. That said, hopefully he’ll come good.
We seem to be bad at set pieces in general. His have had some quality on the ball generally. Yes there's the odd bad one but I'd rather do what he's doing than Seri's hopeful floats into the box
Funny how we all see it different apart from one, generally thought they were better - partially the problem is the lack of attack on the ball
While Twine was ineffective as a wide player last night, you had to admire his first touch. He received a lot of cross field balls and every single one of them was controlled and out of his feet in an instant. In central areas defenders will commit as the ball is played into him but with that level of control he will be able to pick a pass and get us on the front foot. His set piece delivery was also very good and while his free kick was easily saved he at least hit the target with some pace and forced a save. Not the complete damp squib performance some are suggesting.
The one thing I noticed in my limited viewing last night, was still the defence, with the ball, not being quick enough to pass the ball. It wasn’t as bad as Doncaster by any stretch, but it seems the back 4, bar Coyle, at least he trie’s getting it to the winger or run with it, are afraid to do anything other than pass the buck to one of the others. There was a point where Ingram was going to throw it quickly to the winger on the right, but instead stopped, then after about 5 seconds, dropped it about a metre away to the nearest defender. It’s that slowness, that’s going to kill us eventually.
His ball quality really warrants him playing centrally. I would be inclined to drop Tufan deeper and play Twine as the second striker.
He’s a technically very good player. His first touch was brilliant. Vaughan also has a good first touch as well in those situations. Makes a nice change to seeing Longman try to control the ball in those same situations and having to take a few more touches just to steady himself.
we desperately need a left full back - Greaves got run ragged last night and he failed to cut out at least 90% of the crosses coming in - plus getting booked unnecessarily in the first 10 minutes didn't help, whether he would be better playing at the back in the centre is debateable - but that position has got to be a priority - unfortunately Rosie never mentions it unless Vinegar Joe is the eventual replacement I thought we played very well in spells but our all too often slow build up doesn't help - we need to up the pace and press their back four - Connolly gave some life to the attack and better finishing would have seen us take all three points A frustrating night, all the more so, considering we could easily have lost when we seemed to let their forwards through too many times with only desperate defending keeping the ball out - all in all, a solid start to the season with many positives
1:56 disgraceful from Traore, misplaces the pass nearly resulting in a goal, watch the effort he makes to correct it... 3:40 McLoughlins effort to block the cross, woeful...
