I worked in tech section in Marks at the time (yes, they had a tech section then). I set all the tellies to Sky Sports (when not allowed as it contained adverts) and walked endlessly up that aisle…then danced as I saw Leihberr had bought us. Happy day.
Of course I was. Not sure if you’ve realised but it’s 2023 and we have just made nearly 200mil of other sales.
First paragraph - welcome to the championship. We were never ever going to be able to get upgrades on the players sold because we have gone down a division. I don’t believe anyone seriously expected this. And if any did - they shouldn’t have For the second paragraph - “not quite premier league players” can easily be read as good or very good championship players. We are not going to have a first team full of premier league players. Burnley didn’t last year and they won at a canter. Even their loans were premier league players deemed not good enough to start in the premier league. Therefore “not quite premier league players”
This is a long, boring argument. It all comes down to a striker. We have a good striker when the window closes and we did good. We don’t and we ****ed it. Deja vu anyone?
I think a big part of the problem for Sancho is that he joined Man United who have been a bit of a basket case, could have done well elsewhere in the PL imo. Until Boehly they were definitely the worst run Big 6 side and were signing players for brand reasons rather than what they needed on the pitch (again imo).
They seemed good under Ten Hag last year and he couldn’t really make an impact. But they did sign Antony who took his space. Or if his space was left - already had Rashford. As you say - poorly run. Bad transfer choice
Very long, and very boring. Considering we're a relegated team that needed, and has seen, a lot of change, I think our business has been okay. Keep Che great. Lose Che, and inadequately replace him, not great. I just struggle to understand not bringing in Piroe, who was there for the taking, if Che is on his way out, as seems likely. They'll need to pull a rabbit out the hat.
It is but is also one I don’t think we are ever going to get an answer to. I would say perhaps the Swansea board was just not going to play ball on that one. Like wanted 20m from us but 12m from Leeds. Doesn’t make sense but people have talked about how they are Americans with big and easily bruised egos. But then the Wood thing doesn’t make sense unless we are close to their valuation regardless and weren’t with Piroe We apparently never bid but also have various ITKs saying he was a top target. Doesn’t make sense
If that were true we wouldn’t have signed Charles for 10m, be bidding similar for Wood (allegedly but bids have been reported) and would have sold Smallbone for 10m
Presumably a striker ? Mainly because I can’t immediately identify options in the loan market for that position from running through the PL squads.
