Would you rather sell absolutely everyone so that we don’t have a chance of promotion? Your last point is right though - there is a balance. All I am saying is that currently the balance is wrong. Without replacing those goals we will miss out on promotion. The two players that are apparently leaving are the two that have scored and assisted our wins this season. Definitely not something to be happy about
By my reckoning, we've sold 4 of our best players: Tino, Lavia, JWP and now Tella. Not sure how you can say the balance is wrong when 4 was always likely to be the bare minimum departing.
Some people assume Sport Republic are now just in it to make their money back. I just don’t think the sums allow for that given what was invested to date offset by sales. Because they will still need to sell the club too and almost no amount of asset stripping will get it breaking even in the championship. And even if it did what was left by way of squad wouldn’t attract investors i just don’t think the sums up for the “asset strip and run” doomsday scenario
Yeah we’ve sold everyone got an absolute **** team left and have zero chance of promotion. It’s not like there is still 7 days left in the transfer window, we have already bought the most expensive player so far in this transfer window (Charles £15 Million) about to sign the joint second most expensive player this window (Woods £10 Million), and who knows what could happen by next Friday??
Mate, you said 40 goals - that clearly adds up to a pathetic 39. You were clearly miles wrong, just admit it and move on
These discussions exist in a bizarre land where any rumours out are 100% definitely going to happen and no incomings of any kind will happen. Despite no evidence of that So you say four. But the people who are saying “all are best players” are basically crossing out KWP, ABK, Sulemana and Adams as well. Seemingly assuming no replacements. And freaking out. Despite it not happening yet Indeed there seems to be this certainty that Adams will definitely go and that no one will be brought in for his position at all. And it is perplexing. You can see it in the way a lot of comments here and elsewhere are phrased
No, I'd rather not sell proven championship players who have not only proved themselves in other teams but have demonstrably done the job in this team in order to make SR richer. Then replace them with utterly ****e/underwhelming players on loan. (Let's not forget before Tella and Adams we've already sold 100m plus worth of players so it's not like the money is desperately needed) Everyone has very short memories on how this worked out last time for us in the Championship.
See, if we can keep hold of Che and Charly, I think we’ve likely done pretty well. I think we will keep Charly, but think Che may go. I’m not pissing my pant about this yet, will see who comes in. I have a feeling Fraser was the Tella replacement, and with what we have in the club we aren’t short of wingers, so that may not be so bad. Of course, everyone would love an Oscar, but don’t think it is catastrophic.
Hang on a minute. You were the one moaning that we only signed kids. So you can't also moan when they go out and get experienced players on loan. We could sign Mbappe and you'd still complain that he was replacing a "proven Championship player"!
Pretty sure even the most negative posters would expect us to replace the likes of Che if/when he goes. But there isn’t a whole lot of trust in our scouting to replace them adequately. And given that, for the moment at least, it appears we’ve sold Tella and replaced him with the loan signing of a player whose barely played for years I think it’s fair that people are getting frustrated and annoyed.
All we can compare with at the moment is Leicester and Leeds. Leicester have so far paid for 4 players. Coady, Winks, Hermansen and Mvididi. Total spend around £30 million. They have got money for 2 players Barnes and Maddison for around £79 million, and have to let others leave on a free or released like, Perez, Soyunco, Tielemens, Armartey, Bertrand, Mendy, Tete and Evans. Leeds have spent around £20 million on Piroe and Ampadu plus Darlow and Byram for nothing. Got money for Adams, Rodrigo and Roberts for around £28 million. They have loaned players like Wober, Harrison, Koch, Aaronsen, Roca and Kristensen. Whereas we still got money for the likes of Diallo and Orsic. Has our transfer business been that bad, really?
Fraser has barely played for Newcastle because they have outgrown him. Doesn't mean he won't be a good fit for us.
Said 40+ I’ll admit I missed the last sentence although I’m not sure that can be applied to last season’s Burnley But it clearly isn’t as simple as adding those up. There are styles of play and systems to consider. For example. Tella played central a lot. He wouldn’t have here. Adams might have been in a two man strike partnership (I can’t remember). Adams’ goals might have come from the Tella equivalent in that team being involved in the creation rather than the scoring - reducing one tally But sure a pithy comment is suitable here and football is just a simple game of finding a player who scored X goals last season and they will automatically score X goals this season. My favourite example of this was when Chelsea signed Shevchenko and Ballack and the sports papers were salivating over Shevchenko and (I think) Drogba getting close to 30 goals each and Ballack and Lampard each getting 20 for an automatic 100 goals. Based on prior records at different clubs. And ignoring that they had one of the most defensive managers in recent eras. That still sticks out to me because I knew that was laughable at the time and proved to be. Pretty sure they were still really successful. But those goal returns simply did not happen
No it doesn’t. He might be. But Tella was top class in this league last season and had already played a key part in 3 games with us. So it’s selling off much more of a guarantee on a hope that someone who hasn’t played for years can suddenly come in and have the impact that Tella had with his goal contributions.
Our percentage sales to spend it much lower which I think is annoying and/or upsetting people. Especially compared to Leeds who look like they might well end up spending more than incomings despite this reported championship black hole It looks like we are selling players that Leeds would have sold if not for these crazy loan clauses. And if they sell their two wingers that sales figure shoots up
If they were asset stripping to run, I'd not mind if they sold the entire team if it meant they ****ed off in to the sunset. They're not running off. We're their useful cash cow. They're ****ing terrible owners the rest of you just won't admit it (yet)
Totally different if you mean when we got relegated under Lowe? If it is it proves my point. We had no real saleable asset’s then and was under massive pressure financially so had to give our only player away for next to nothing in Bale. This time we have been able to get big transfer fees, clear a lot of big wages (around £30 million a year approx) and still buy players for large fees in the championship.
Just a few points. 1. We will soon reach £200m profit in player sales this season. The shortfall is £80m. This has been a profitable relegation. Last season we made £159m from being in the prem. We are doing better than that and have not spent anything. 2. I am in this for Martin. Fantastic manager and love his system, but he just came from a team where the money dried up and he left. You do have to spend on replacements. 3. This final week makes or breaks us. Our rivals have fantastic forward lines and ours has no sharp edge. We are a Dalek with a feather duster for a blaster. Nobody can even think of arguing - without massive delusions - that most of our goals have come through the two players WE JUST SOLD. We have to replace them with quality. I don’t need two players. I want one player of the status of Piroe. Take 10%of our profits and spend it. 3. We have sold most of our top tier players. The ones people want. We have sold very few of our mid tier and none of our total crap. On this basis Wilcox has done only an average job. He got good money for the jag and the lambo but he can’t sell the ford. I will judge him after this week. He needs to offload a ****load and bring in someone who makes us all go… ok, ****, yeah, this league is ours.
I’m just not convinced we are they useful of a cash cow if we stay in the Championship. Nearly all championship clubs run at a loss. Unless they spin a big net profit from all the sales then we aren’t a cash cow. Also football clubs cash flow is notoriously the toughest part due to timings of income and payments. But that is getting too literal and likely not what you really meant
Really? Because your ideal scenario would put us at serious risk of administration and possibly worse.
