Adios to the Commonwealth Games then. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-66402140 Countries just don't have £billions to waste on it. Like the Olympics, these Games should be held in the same place every time, with permanent facilities built & paid for equally by all nations. The Olympics should naturally be held in Greece. The Commonwealth Games in the UK. The World Championships? Australia
Boxing News Not sure this shouldn't be in the Entertainment & Showbiz thread, since top[ level Boxing is hardly a sport anymore... Tyson Fury is fighting some bum. Now the big Joshua V Whyte bout is off, as the latter has failed a drugs test. They're trying to find a bum for Joshua to fight. None of the so-called "best" Heavyweights ever fight each other anymore. And when they do fight it's in Saudi Arabia and the pay-per-view is £30 or something stupid. Aren't Boxing fans sick to death of the mickey taking circus that Boxing has become? Then you've got Conor Benn and the strange tale of a cult of pseudo-scientists claiming that he failed a drugs test because a genetic abnormality he was born with means he generates a minute amount of the banned substance in question naturally within his own body. For pity's sake - do they think we were born yesterday? And don't even start me off on pugilist you-tubers
Headline on the back pages of The Sun tomorrow; Qatari's win bidding war to buy Manchester United Hang on, I thought that after Saudi Arabia bought Newcastle United, the Premier League said it would no longer allow Nation States to buy English football Clubs?
So in a few weeks we'll have Saudi Arabia owning Newcastle Utd The UAE owning Man City Qatar owning Man Utd I wonder how long it will be before Premier League fixtures between those Clubs are played in the Middle East.
Off at a tangent here, but another story that puts top level football to shame... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66586059 I agree with Rachel Riley. Manchester Utd never wanted to let Greenwood go and they're really annoyed that they've had to. They are making all kinds of soothing noises, sweeping the whole business under the carpet and hoping people just forget about it. But I've heard they won't even take Greenwood in the Saudi League, his reputation smells so bad. When your attitude to women is even too extreme for the Saudis, you know you're in trouble. I wonder if Andrew Tate is looking to put a football team together...
I actually took a lot of umbrage at Man Utd saying they wouldn't take a decision until they had consulted the women's team, thus dumping all the responsibility on them. It's been reported that they have recieved a lot of nasty messsages and tweets from fans who want Greenwood to be playing fro Man U no matter what, and threats about the consequences of making a stand and saying get rid of him. Man Utd should have been capable of doing that unaided, and this buck passing exercise was horrible. So much for 'her game too'. It wasn't a court of law so they didn't have to have 'definate proof'. He hasn't been found innocent, and he damaged their reputacion. In a similar situation, most of us would have been shown the door, and the way they dragged their heels was very very poor.
The head of the Spanish FA is a crude sex pest. He's done serious damage to the reputation of the Women's World Cup by behaving disgracefully. Then made matters worse by claiming his molesting of a Spain player was consensual which is totally untrue according to her. He took advantage of her in the moment, and I expect if she could have that moment over again she would knee him in his randy b***ocks. What a total chump. All that was positive about the World Cup has been eclipsed. Everything is now about him, and I expect the gutter press are lapping it up.
When he said defiantly that he wouldn't resign, the men in the audience mostly clapped and the women in the front row didn't. Oh dear.
Well done the Spanish women players who have refused to play again for Spain at International level until the crotch-hugging sex pest is removed from his job He humiliated that player and totally disrespected her in front of the whole World. The bloke is a total embarrassment.
The guy will be gone one way or another. But he should have apologised and marched the next day. If that had been the men's team, he wouldn't have been kissing anyone. But he is also getting backing from football officials, which just aggravates the situation.
I just heard a stomach-turning attempt at an apology by the Spanish Football Federation sex pest. (reported on SSN). Asking for forgiveness while still refusing to admit he did anything wrong. A totally cynical attempt to take the moral high ground and divide those who are currently united against him, by making anybody still calling for his head look heartless. Some will see this and say "look, he's apologised. He should be forgiven." Others will maintain that his transgression is too serious for a u-turn apology to make right, and that he should still go. Then those two camps will turn on each other. He needs to be fired. A weasel worded attempt to wriggle off the hook is simply not good enough.
Jordan Henderson https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66714875 Sorry I sold out. Henderson says he supports the LGBT+ community, but happily takes massive wages from a Regime that executes gay people. Being a Hypocrite can be quite troubling to a weak-willed man with a conscience. "I haven't changed as a person" he says. So you were always lacking in sincerity then Jordan.
OOOOH! You really really hurt poor Jordan. Isn't it amazing how celebs resort to victimhood in various situations.
I would prefer to think that JH has changed as a person. At least that would mean he was a good guy in the past, who genuinely did support LGBT+ communities and causes. But then huge Saudi money turned his head (to the side with the blind eye). I'll confess that much money might turn mine too. But if I was already earning the same as JH before Saudi came calling, I would like to think I could stick to my principles.
