Holgate; "Desperate to come here". Fraser; "Desperate to prove a point". Manning; "Brilliant character, brilliant understanding". Downes; "Brilliant athlete, brilliant character, brilliant teammate" and he's hungry apparently but I'm sure Le Tiss can point him in the right direction on that one. But Shea is only "very talented", he must have been Jason's signing. There's a bit of Adkins about our Russell, not that it's a bad thing, I liked Nigel.
Yeah the comments from Everton fans are similar to those from Saints fans when Bednarek left. I'm not expecting much from Holgate but if he is on par with Bednarek then it's good business. He's free, after all, and we need four competent CBs in this squad.
How do we see him fitting in? He knows we have Stephens and Bednarek, he’d presumably have assurances that he’s more than just backup to have chosen to come here Stephens I’d captain, he’s not getting dropped Bednarek? If not first choice then at this stage he’s surely a sell? Or are we going back 3 (maybe after international break?)
He was getting next to no game time at all at Everton. So even just having him on rotation is an improvement for him. I don't think loan players can generally expect to be automatic first teamers. If he plays well enough to become a first choice CB, then he resurrects his career. That should be enough of a motivator.
Meh, let’s be honest he wasn’t getting a PL move as he is **** and outside of the PL there is maybe one club more attractive than us atm, domestically anyway. Just standard sound bites players give when signing for a new club. Not excited with this signing at all, one positive is with the Wood rumours seeming to be gaining pace is that by signing Holgate as well it means Lyanco is presumably leaving. Holgate as 4th choice is fine I suppose, even if Lyanco is a better player than him
That’s the spirit Lyanco is genuinely one of the worst Saints players I’ve ever had the misfortune to watch in the PL era. I’m not sure there’s been many worse! Got away with it for too long because he called himself the gorilla and did some funny tweets.
He's a CB that can't defend, a ball-playing defender that can't pick a pass, and a physical enforcer who frequently loses out in tackles. What's not to love?
A good mate of mine is an Everton fan and says very sinilar about Holgate. Messaged me earlier and said he is comfortably their worst defender and they’ve got ****ing Michael Keane
We’re not in the Premier League anymore, so I’m willing to see how he goes. Hooiveld was cracking for us at this level but a total clown show in the PL
Oh yeah I appreciate that he could do a job in the Championship. But with the Wood rumours and Stephens Bednarek options it does seem slightly strange for him to come here as the 3/4th choice. Watch him be KWPs replacement at right back
