Well he’s not going to know tbf to him. Every player has their price and if someone matches it they will go. I’m actually happy he only said one or two rather than 10
Russell Martin on Ché Adams: 'The conversation is ongoing. The one thing I am 100 per cent sure of is the character of Ché and how good a professional he is. I really hope we can continue with him, we've rejected a couple of bids - one recently and one a couple of weeks ago - and we have offered him a new contract. There's not a bid on the table that mets the club's valuation, so nothing will change from us. It will be down to how Ché feels about it. As it stands, the situation has not changed and he'll be in the team tomorrow and if he isn't it's because something developed in these 24 hours.'
That can't be true. He just said players will only leave if we are happy with it. Just now. So either he doesn't like Che or he isn't going.
Seems like he means that only one or two will need replacing. Not that only that number will leave. I expect it is just a figure of speech. Players that will need replacing if they leave : KWP ABK/Lyanco (assuming Holgate replaced one) Tella Adams That is already four. Now he could mean that at most one or two more will go but that seems purely the optimistic view. Not least because both those defenders are likely to go. So I’m not reading that comment too literally
He can still like Che and he can still leave if a suitable deal is made. Both can be true. The world isn’t a black and white as you either think it is or want it to be
Seems straight forward….the manager would like to keep him and we aren’t letting him go cheap. The only unknown factor is how much of a fuss Che wants to make if the move he wants comes in. Meanwhile he’s a Saints player and is available for selection
I know this is the reality of the Championship, but this Adams situation is becoming a piss boiler, could make or break our promotion push, I know they are probably trying to handle the situation delicately but as a fan to see our one competent striker being a ‘maybe’ this close to the end of the window with absolutely no whispers of an incoming is dodgy ground.
Again, you judge me as a person and not my post. Did I say the world is black and white? Can you not read sarcasm in a post? Do I need to write in blue for you? I do not think that the two statements: "Players will only leave if we are happy to let them leave" and "we want Che to leave but he might leave" are compatible. Or do I need to put my brain back in? My point was press conferences mean nothing. We learn nothing. Any promises are not promises. Any players staying and going are not up to RM. He is a coach and not a manager.
Of course they are compatible. 'I like Ché but in the end, we are happy with the fee and the fact the player wanted to go and we have someone else coming in helped us make the decision' can easily be a stance.
Brilliant. And when that good player comes in and Martin says I am really happy with how this part of the window turned out, I will also be delighted.
So you have no real answer then? Not doing much to push back against the suggestion you're very black and white and struggle with nuance. Never mind.
