By far the best chance Spurs have of getting a first rate striker is to pick up top youth strikers when they seem worth the risk, and hope one develops into a star. I have no problem at all with the Veliz purchase, but I think Orban would be an even better one. I'd also like to see Scarlett given a run of games now, because there will neve be a better time. Richarlison at this point is getting a lot of touches while passing and shooting horribly. So he's a huge black hole of possession. It would be an easy act for Scarlett to follow.
I don't think that is quite right. There is a limit on our spending related to the covenant on the stadium loans. The difference between the best and worst results on getting rid of the unwanted players is probably £30m plus about the same for Højbjerg. That makes a huge difference to who we can afford to sign. So waiting until the last minute on signings gives us better options for signings. I don't think there is any issue with getting them all out, only on the financial result.
I’m certainly not as clued up as other spurs fans on the intricate finances such as FFP, but what power spurs says regarding the “financial result” makes a lot of sense , and would also explain why the incomings have ground to a halt. it’s gonna be 1 hell of a scramble to try and get rid of that volume of players over the next few days. If we can somehow manage to pull it off, I don’t see the incomings happening. There just won’t be time. but at the same time, if levy knows everyone is playing him at his own game, I sincerely hope there’s deals for new players pretty much all but signed, just waiting in the wings for our departures. That’s probably the best position we can put ourselves in right now.
I’d be really keen on seeing Scarlett (or Veliz) start at the weekend too. That finish against Shakhtar in pre-season shows what he can do with half a chance in the box. Kid’s a natural finisher and I’d really like to see what he can do surrounded by first team players, he’s only really played competitively for us in “B teams” or in the final seconds/ minutes of a game.
Sounds like Devine is gonna join Port Vale on loan. Good to see him finally getting out. Hope it all goes well.
That's exactly what we should be doing. I don't think ffp is an issue for us at all. But the stadium loan covenants almost certainly are.
I wonder if we're going to see a few more loaned when their CG status is locked down, similar to how both Devine, Troy Parrott and Nile John were kept in our academy sides until they'd qualified If so, that would suggest Yago Santiago could also be in line for a loan as he qualified as CG already, while Maksim Paskotsi qualifies next month so could be in line for one next January
Paul O'Queef claims Leeds are enquiring about Djed Spence Don't suppose they fancy Tanganga too, given they seem keen to take all our defensive misfits?
Lyall Thomas claims that Man Utd are looking to bring in Reggie That's it, boys! Don't let the fact he rejected you in favour of us three years ago put you off, come in with a serious offer and I'm sure we can come to an arrangement...
Luke Shaw's got a lengthy injury, so we shouldn't take too much of the piss £10m + Rashford should cover it
More reports again about going for Brennan Johnson this week. I like the guy but not for £50m. And if that’s also coming at the expense of a CF/ ST when it’s clear for literally everyone in football (and out of football!) to see our number 9 isn’t good enough then it’s a head scratcher for sure.
There's a chance that Johnson will be shifted onto the backburner this window given he appeared to do his hamstring yesterday I wonder if the likely Dier for Adarabiyo swap will be sorted after our Season Killer Cup match, as that seems to be falling into place quite nicely at the moment One thing that we should have half a mind on has to be our midfield, though, as both Bissouma and Sarr are on ACoN duty in the new year
AFCON shouldn’t be too bad. The PL’s break overlaps with all but one of the matches I think. Sarr’s Senegal are a decent bet to do well as defending champions but I’m not sure Mali will go too deep. Edit - checked and it looks like AFCON is Jan 13th to Feb 11th. PL break is Jan 14th to Jan 30th. So I imagine that group stages will be done and dusted by the time the PL break is over.
There may be genuine concern that Son is in permanent decline now. He was awful in pre season and hasn't hit the ground running this season. Johnson has played as an inverted winger and could well be a long term solution on that flank, as well as having the versatility to slot in on the other flank if needs be. But overall I tend to agree, CF is far more urgent as however bad Son has been, Richarlison has been ten times worse - throughout his career.
