If they can't afford a proper deal for Che, we could be really kind and offer them the chance to instead spend their spare change on a Djenepo-Aribo double-deal.
This would be helpful from a squad rebuilding perspective. I wouldn’t be averse to us moving on all our senior CBs except Stephens since he is the new captain. Refresh and bring in players more comfortable with the ball and perhaps with more versatility at either FB or DM. I like the look of all of Vyner, Harwood-Bellis and Wood but all three seem unrealistic even with three outgoings due to game time requirements. If it weren’t for wages and KWP was going I’d perhaps consider Holgate, Vyner and one of the other two as the first two can be two right back options as well as central defence options I’ve mentioned this a lot but us signing suitably good players to be guaranteed reserves for us in the Championship will be tricky
Favourable wage contribution for one of their players such as Holgate (I know no one really wants him it seems but the link is there so using him as an example) AND they take McCarthy as part of the overall deal But I would assume they are also struggling for wage budget space as well so those two suggestions might not work. But a small down payments suggests that this might be mainly cash flow issues rather than pure FFP metrics.
They have an upcoming hearing which could see them facing fines, transfer bans or points deductions. They failed FFP so spectacularly that it really took a good effort to waste that much money. It’s gone on managers, players and a stadium. Their recent buying to stave off relegation took the opposite approach to us. There was plenty to criticise on the Saints recruitment front last season, but Everton have stuck to targeting established or older players with high salaries and low fees. None of them have any resale and now they are so hamstrung by budgets there very little room to manoeuvre. We went for a plethora of young players and even if the rest of the squad was totally devoid of value, a Lavia can go a long way to plug the finance gap if it goes tits up. Everton survived immediately but at a long term cost. The stadium build is also a huge albatross and their ownership issues have resulted in a dearth of money coming into the club. I said previously that I’d be surprised if they signed someone at that headline figure.
Exactly - “get him gone” ffs. Whoever the leak in our club is that briefs TacticallyMatt needs to be got gone.
Wasn’t Everton’s approach more mixed than that? They signed Gueye and Tarkowski as established players likely on high wages. But they also signed Garner, Onana, McNeil as younger players
Without meaning to state the obvious, twitter is largely populated by people who have no idea what is happening and have too much time to themselves so just post fictious nonsense. I love a good rumour but in 10 days it will be over TF
They all would have been very expensive salary wise too though. Garner had been at United for years and had already played in the Premier League and lit up the Championship in loans. He was in high demand. McNeil was £20m and had played extensively for Burnley in the PL too. He wasn’t neither old and high paid, nor young and cheap. He was young and expensive. They won’t make money on him. Onana won’t make much either after coming in for £33m. I’m sure they’d owe %s of the profits too. They went for young talent who had already been established at the top level. That’s not the same as Lavia, Tino, Charles et al. The point is, there’s a good deal of misspent funds building a team that still doesn’t work. A great story is that when Benitez was there, he’d fallen out with the medical team, so they paid them all off and sacked them to appoint his own chosen crew. Then, he fell out with one of their best players (a left back, name escapes me) who they then sold. Then, a week later, Benitez was sacked. So if course he got paid off too. That was only last year, January 22. Since then, pretty much everything has gotten worse, including with the cost and drama around the stadium and it’s actually a massive achievement that we somehow contrived to be significantly more useless than them last season.
think LTL said that Tactically Matt came across as a bit of twat and being an Everton fan is certainly a tick in that column. he clearly has a connection within the club as he reports a lot of facts about which players are part of the match day squad etc, but it might just be his dad is the coach driver.
Good point on the “young and expensive”. Might also explain why we didn’t get Garner - who I was hoping we would get last year
