The penalty in the European Cup was apparently the first time penalties were used to settle a tie in that competition. Or so I read. Andy was the hero of that shootout. Here he is (at 11:38 in this video) saving that penalty in front of over 65000 (no typo!):
And, of course, those wonderful chaps at Watford Legends wrote this: https://watfordlegends.com/interviews/andy-rankin/
Another good read: https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/19242924.former-everton-goalkeeper-watfords-player-1970s/
Here he is, in a typical flying mode, saving a shot from Liverpool star, Roger Hunt, in a 4-0 away win for Everton at Anfield.
Who is the presenter on that video? Am pretty sure he also used to produce videos he called 'The Boot Room' in which he analysed match tactics - haven't seen him for quite a while now.
Just had a look at his YouTube channel - the last video posted was a year ago. He seems to have had some connection with the 'Do Not Scratch Your Eyes' podcast.
Seems loads on Twitter saying they’d have have Davis back now. Maybe they are that desperate! Or fickle . Trouble is I think people including the club thought he was a goal scorer which the guy definitely isn’t even if he does some attributes that maybe we didn’t see the best of !
Probably Watford greatest era I cannot say I was there, married with two kids on a workday and the match in Manchester, BUT I watched the highlights deliberately NOT knowing the scoreline so that was almost being there
The author of that article is a friend of mine. And I agree with every word he wrote. And I was at that Wrexham match too, one of my three visits there!
Guess who scored for Forest Green ! And it was a pen either. Also young Forde netted on his debut at Orient.
