Is this the same coaching team that brought both AS’ on to be worth £10m and £25m respectively ? To a degree I agree we can’t only recruit from L1 & L2 and expect success, which is why having done that recently due to financial restrictions I’m suggesting we should use some of the money received to now buy championship standard players, but he needs to be given the funds to do it.
Think you can add Lloyd Kelly ( £15m) to the list of AS and Scott. Not forgetting Bell, Max, Vyner, Conway currently in our 1st 11. Benarous and Yeboah aren't far away either. We need proper Championship level players signed soon to help us achieve the next level, failure to do so will negate all the fantastic work of our Academy.
I used the two that have been sold as we know their worth, the others we don’t. Kelly wasn’t due to our present coaches. Agree though we now need to buy some championship ready players to add to our squad. SL will need to Auth sufficient funds for that to happen, and I don’t think he’s willing
It’s not always about funds, getting the right players gelling.. we have the “expertise manager” that should be doing better with the players we have.. it’s what normally gets teams up.. He’s always said he won’t buy for the sake of and would have to be better than we have. Not once in a interview have I heard him say he hasn’t got the funds for a certain player.. Basically, if he had the funds, would he know who he wanted? Not sure it’s his style.. I think he prefers to have success without just buying it..
Semenyo was already well established in the City setup by the time Fleming and the other coaches arrived, as he had loan spells playing in L1 & 2 previously.
And the work the club have done to establish ourselves in the second tier of English football for a sustained period of time. We haven't done that in as long as I can remember, if ever?
Bloody hell 1For, we employ enough coaches/experts etc who have, or should, their fingers on the pulse.
Pearson was brought to the club as he had experience in doing well at clubs with a limited budget. That was literally the appeal of Pearson to SL, that he shouldn't need the big spending approach of previous regimes, his value to the club came in extracting everything out of the players he had through his experience. I would argue that Pearson has got less out of a lot of players he inherited than LJ did, and has since moved the vast majority of them on (easy to say "not my players" than work with them), and has limited success in improving the players he has signed, and make us better. I would definitely agree that he has used academy players in a way that aids their development, but as @wizered said in another post, Tinnion has to take the credit for our academy players, not the manager!
Long time ago Supcon. The 70's followed by 4 seasons in the top league. Basically achieved with our kids as well. These days it's a different levels of dosh, surfaces and skill. Think our time has passed us by.
Too young to remember that. I'm actually quite happy with where we are in the football pyramid right now. I started supporting City in the early 80's when it was relegation after relegation, and we have had little to shout about since, so being an "established" side in the second tier, is probably our level.
I agree. However remembering trips to Brentford, Brighton, Luton and Bournemouth makes me wonder why it happened to them and we're as far away as Christmas.
Agree, doesn’t mean we need a big number 9 though, means we need to play to our strengths. If we get a big number 9 the temptation would be to lump it up to him, that’s not the way to go imo
I thought he (Palmer) had a game in him but was too inconsistent. Certainly not value for money. My point was he (Palmer) was bought when we had money (along with the rest of the EFL) - and he put on the shirt and played (when selected) Simpson however was bought when we were skint - and I’m not sure he even played 90 minutes at all for us. Both were a waste of money looking back, brought in under different managers and different financial circumstances - but only one manager gets slated for wasting money. Strange that, really ……
