If we sold Adams for £15m and bought both Piroe and Archer for circa £40m that would still leave us about £100m up on transfers this year.

Almost certainly wouldn’t get both Archer and Piroe even with Adams leaving but we definitely have the funds to if we wanted.

Know very little about both Piroe or Archer, so not sure who the better signing would be? Piroe has scored more but Archer possibly has more potential. That's if we can actually sign either.

Not sure we’d sign two relatively high profile strikers when we only play a system with one. Apparently Piroe can play off the right and so can Archer (per transfermarkt). So that only seems viable for the kind of fees we’d be talking about if both Adams and Tella go. And indeed might be one way of placating the fan base of that does happen

Is Archer actually for sale or just loan?

Yeah, very fair summary. And quite frankly, why would both of those players sign for a team that plays one up top when Adam Armstrong is already here too? Whoever we pursue will want assurances - and fair enough.

I've seen murmurs of Sydney Van Hooijdunk on twitter.
He plays for Bolonga and quite a tall CF. I would say similar to Ross Stewart so maybe we will targeting someone like that.

Both wouldn’t but one might. But it really seems like our sole central striker is not Adam Armstrong’s best position. He isn’t really a focal point

This is a video highlighting Armaa role as a attacking 8 and FWIW did an excellent job here. I think personally that he would excel here more than a number 9.

Wouldn't be against signing 2 strikers if that's the case.

Think some of our other recent strikers came from Shankland too

Links to Duk and Shankland suggest we might be after two strikers if Che leaves and one regardless - especially if Onuachu and Mara move out. Also if Armstrong gets permanently redeployed in any role other than central striker a slot opens up.

I struggle to see either of the two I mentioned being the direct Che replacement if he is sold. That would seem to be someone like Archer or Piroe

I’d still expect the second to be a more minor name. Both Archer and Piroe for a team that plays one striker seems like a non starter even if they can potentially play elsewhere in the front line

As for upcoming transfer market musings:

So we’ve been rumoured with an extra midfielder. I take that to mean central rather than wide as those are usually now called attackers or wingers. I assume that is still the case despite the Armstrong experiment. No clue which type of midfielder is likely to be. Potentially a hint at an intention to move Aribo on

Other rumours indicate that we seem to be in the market for a striker to be the backup striker option. One we will get regardless of Che’s status. Perhaps indicates plans to move both Onuachu and Mara on.

Seems likely that one defender will be moved on and one more will be come in. I wonder if there will be even more activity in this area. I’ve mused before that a new signing should potentially be looking at Bednarek’s place and I can’t see him wanting to stay on the bench. If this were FM then you’d see us trying to move ABK (because he wants to go), Bednarek and Lyanco on. But I don’t know how we can bring in 3 CBs at late notice. Not to mention find one who will join as 4th choice. Some of our targets (Holgate and Vyner) can also play RB which would help. And also allow us to try and find a loan for Bree. That lower division german midfielder apparently can also cover in central defence. So if he was signed and we brought in two CBs (perhaps two of Harwood-Bellis, Holgate and Vyner based on rumours only) then the 4th spot (if anyone will take Lyanco) could be anyone from Charles, Awe or this midfielder

Seems like a wide player might only be signed if Tella needs replacing. Same as a high priced striker and Adams. Although the Belgian football guy is still tweeting about Paintsil

I wonder if KWP would have been sold if we could have signed Aarons and now we might block unless a bigger than expected offer comes in. Will surely get a replacement if he does go. We still seem short at right back assuming Bree isn’t considered really viable unless we get one or both of the CBs who can play there. Our full backs seem to play narrow so this could work.

I expect Sulemana will go without a replacement. And McCarthy will stay. Last I saw palace were linked with Henderson so potentially using the Guaita situation to sign a new first choice rather than a new backup

An interesting (perhaps…) nugget to factor in to the striker situation

Ché and Cameron Archer are both represented by the same agency: Unique Sports Group.

Spent some time working in this area a couple of years back, and it was not uncommon that a club / DOF would say ‘sure, your client can have their move, but not without a replacement. And by the way, one of your company’s other clients would fit the bill and enable this deal to happen. Oh and if you manage to get both deals done, we’ll even up the agency fee % - over to you…’

Could be an angle to keep an eye on, if Archer is high on our list.
