Saw a lot of tweets saying we should just sell Ché at 89 mins yesterday when it was 1-1. He scores one tap in and now he's completely unsellable. Football fans, never change from your neurotic ways <laugh>

For a striker that has scored only 5 goals in 28 premier league appearances last season, £15 million for a player with less than 1 year left in his contract is good business, and sadly football is a business nowadays for every club.

Let's not overxaggerate based on a couple of tweets. Most saints fans I've seen have consistently said we should keep him.

I just hope we're willing to spend a bit and be flexible on valuations. Clubs will know we're both loaded and desperate so will likely try to sting us as much they can.

Yeah the fact that he and Adam Arnstrong seem like hitting Ronaldo and Messi numbers in the Championship would suggest it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone else who can do that as well. We are going to dominate a lot of games and create chances as we’ve proven already, whoever the forwards are are going to get a lot of chances

I think the issue is Adams is a proper striker in the Championship, like top of the line.

He wasn't in the PL, but he absolutely is here.

If we sell him it will be extremely hard to adequately replace him in the time we have available.

Maybe someone is already lined up, but it is a massive gamble if not. Getting this wrong could well be the difference when it comes to promotion this season.

Exactly. A lot of strikers would have seen the way we’re playing this season and the chances we create so will want to join. As I said, let’s wait and see who comes in.

Ché Adams doesn't guarantee you promotion, it didn't for Birmingham City and it won't for us either. He also fluffs too many gilt-edge chances.

With 1yr of contract left and having been wanting to leave for about a year, if you can turn a profit on a striker who has never even made it to double figures in his four seasons at the club, then you absolutely sell. And then empower Martin to choose his own man to lead the line.

Let me caveat by saying I like Ché a lot and if he had more than one year on his deal I would be standing a bit more firm.

I get that mate, but there's not even a sniff of rumour of incomings. I understand Lavia was off to bigger and better things and even JWP. But selling someone who's hit the ground running and banging them in screams to me that SR will cash in on absolutely anyone. Where the **** are we finding a striker like that now, especially as SR are only interested in academy players? ****ing ridiculous decision

I don't envy the club. If we could guarantee that Che's goals would be the difference between getting promotion and not getting promotion, selling him would be the wrong move (ignoring Saudi type money). Equally, if we could guarantee that we won't get promoted, regardless of Che's goals, then selling him would be right move.

But, clearly, nothing can be guaranteed. Neither in relation to how our season will pan out, nor whether Che's replacement would score more or less than him.

Personally I lean towards the option of retain him and then lose him for free. But I understand the alternative option of sell and replace. I don't see that either option is the obvious one.

Ice said somewhere else we cannot mess this up like we did with Ings replacement. We have to bring someone in who is going to lead that line and Be a dominant presence whether that be Physicality, Speed or Guile. We have to get this right.

Also a side note, if you take emotion out of it - £15Million is still a really good amount for someone who isn't prolific in the prem.

Don't think anyone has said anything about a guarantee but as a known quantity I rate our chances far higher with him than without.

If we've got something lined up ready to go (Piroe would have been ideal) then fair enough I'll feel better about it. But if we get to next weekend still with no real idea who our main striker for the season is then I think we've been a bit daft.

    What’s Dwight Gayle up to?

Maybe this is Ballards time to shine like a few want

I generally agree with this if we hadn't already brought in over £100m with one of the replacements being a loan. That's why I'm leaning so heavily towards the keep him option.

It gives us much more scope to take the gamble on promotion with him imo and it's not the sort of gamble which puts the club at risk.

Devils advocate, imagine the side without Che.

Whole season with Adam Armstrong backed up by Mara, Onuachu and Ballard whilst trying to get promoted....

I mean id assume someone would be coming in, but remember the striker saga last season.

As I said further up, its too much of a gamble now I feel. Earlier in the summer, I'd have been more ok with it. More time to find a quality replacement.

Che has started the season on fire, and is a known quantity. We don't need to sell, so let's keep him.

If that happens it would be seriously stupid, but both Martin and Wilcox have reiterated enough times that they know who they will be bringing in if people go and - as yet - I've not seen any reason to distrust either. Next 10 days will be interesting.

Yeah I agree, its more in response to what DLTW has said.

Imo he is more valuable to us than £15m even on his last year, unless we have Piroe stood at the door.....
