Good player, but many flaws, both on and off the pitch, he certainly wouldn’t fit in with your beloved Nige’s work ethic.
Kalas Re-Signs Thomas Kalas has resigned for Bristol City with new one year contract Club announcement soon
Excellent news, wish he’d have at least trained with us though It makes sense, last season he was out injured all season, no one is going to sign him on high wage’s until he can prove his fitness, signing a one year deal, whatever the wages, should put him in a good position next year, providing he stays fit and plays well.
It came up on X (Twitter) on City Hub but I can't find it now, so hope I haven't jumped somebodies proverbial gun.. No it's been deleted, might be a load of rumour, ignore until you hear officially.
I was reading on OTIB that this poster does this a lot, to hide the fact it’s not correct so rumour success rate stays higher. Not saying this is what happened but nothing anywhere else on this.
Bristol City's top 10 best ever managers in order of win percentage (Ranked) Ranking the top 10 Robins managers of all time based on the amount of matches they won in their tenures https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/b...ked/#david-burnside-and-tony-fawthrop---42-31
This list probably shows where our club has been for most of its history, in the bottom 2 tiers, which is where we have had moderate success, as reflected in the win %. This is why I found the attacks on a manager who kept us in the 2nd tier for so long, and paved the way for those that followed, something rarely done in my lifetime as a City supporter, so staggering, and unwarranted.
Funny you should say that, he got sacked for failure to produce success for which SL gave him formidable loyalty and financial support, he had a target and failed despite having 4.5 years to achieve it. Wiz, As usual when it comes to LJ, you completely miss the context…. SL has also backed NP financially, and loyally thus far. We have yet to be told the target for NP this season? Maybe it’s yet another season of lower table finish, if so, he’s on track.. Let’s see how his tenure compares when that day comes…
I don't believe I'm missing the context, I just don't agree with your continued version of history, LJ failed his task and was sacked and I believe that SL got his fingers burnt because of that. I think we have got off to a stinker but I am awaiting developments just like the rest of us, I don't know what awaits us but with his knowledge and experience I can't believe we will end up in a lower table posution, like others I wonder how patient he will be with all of the restrictions he seems to be under.
NP hasn’t had anywhere near the backing LJ had. Up till now it was due to the financial pickle we were in. You can Argue all day about who’s fault that was. Now we’ll see how much backing NP gets, the mood music is not much, and if that is the case imo Nige will walk, he wants promotion and the honest truth is I’m not convinced SL is willing to fund it.
Maybe not as much money as LJ, although in relation to the current market, it has been more than enough to secure better than lower half finishes for consecutive full seasons. He’s certainly had major backing from SL against his performance in terms of league finishes, most other Championship managers would have, or did get sacked for such low finishes in the table!! It’s becoming clear that our expectations, and spending have dropped well below what they were a few seasons ago. I guess we all have to now accept this, and adjust/lower our expectations?
We all know the Lansdowns want out or want outside investment -Not sure how this is going to work especially with all the other work that has been approved down at Ashton Gate is he keeping the property and selling the clubs-surely a buyer would want it all buildings and clubs. Any ideas guys-
When NP signed and his first interviews were duly scripted he stated itwould take x amount of time to fulfil what he was suppose to ... the financial crisis! to get rid of the wage bill highs, keep us in the championship and at least initially with the players he inherited to keep us above the position he came in at! .....the result = Almost got us relegated, got rid of the heart of the squad in one go to balance FFP still had a reasonable squad .. got rid of 2 top coach's .. danced along the bottom of the pond with erratic results and had a bit of an "illness" brought in some of the players he wanted still bounced along ............finally it seemed getting together a good squad ... 2 of which now gone for alledgedly £35m???? It was expected that players would be sold .. not given away! refer a little to above, but it is no ones fault ... or is ? ...injuries. Selling a point made when he arrived need to sell to survive .. dont forget SL pumped in £25m earlier this year.. [ if you have £500m in the bank @ 2.5% = £12.5 m interest .. a portfolio of shares that pay annual dividends [ usually averaging 4% + his portfolio likely 6 -7%? ] = £20m so not short of spending money .. Channel Islands pension £xm It was stated get back into ffp zone and not worry for penalties .. well the £40 m loss comes out of the reckoning after this year? IT is a catch 22 situation ... eggs in one basket? .. will he walk? .. I think January will tell. He doesnt like loans or dealing in January he stated ,, so we should be either top 8 3 -4 points from top 6 or in bottom 4 or 5 a couple games from the zone before he does anything
Whilst I agree with the gist of what you are saying Ashton, if I understand FFP correctly it works on a 3 year cycle. Money spent during the LJ / MA era would have to average out over 3 years. We’ve now had 3 years of comparative frugality, so in theory we should be able to ‘go for it’ again. The Scott money should help, but having money to spend is only good if it’s spent wisely. We need a goalkeeper and a big front man IMHO - or even a defender who can get forward (like Flint used to). I’m not arguing to go ‘route 1’ but our current front men are small and get bullied too easily. It would be good to have it as a ‘plan B’ option.
