My take is they're trying to balance the books. Probably a saving to be made replacing Allsop's wage with this new guy.
Never really rated Allsop - big brave character to have at the back but never agile enough for a decent shot stopper. Of the keepers we've had since Ethridge left, I'd still take Alex Smithies right now. Big hangover Prem wages when he was here meant he had to move on with the austerity approach at the club. I think he's still at Leicester and probably on Prem wages from last season but would still be a good keeper at our level.
We do seem in a barren spell as far as keepers are concerned**, relative to the riches going back to Marshall et al. **We're in a barren spell for most other positions, but we're talking about keepers.
I assume Alnwick will be No. 1 after reasonable recent performances where, in the main, his colleagues let him down. Especially v QPR. Still gives me the sh1ts when he comes for crosses although did better last Saturday. Perhaps under a bit more pressure with the new guy looking over his shoulder.
Allsop off........................... https://insidefutbol.com/2023/08/18...-targeted-by-fellow-championship-club/616300/
Marshall and Etheridge were prone to blunders but I have not seen that with Allsop and Allnick, my choice was Allsop but Allnick has done well and his long throws are very good.Anyway this new midfielder is the game changer so they wont be walking through our midfield anymore.
Alnwick had a superb game today and but for him we’d have conceded 4. I’d keep him in the team ahead of the new loanee.
Ben Foster retires with imediate effect so Wrexham looking for a new keeper. If people think we've got defensive issues, have you seen how many they've shipped in 4 games. In two of them they've conceded 5 in each.
Lots of questions and ifs and buts here. Clearly we need CB cover. Simpson & Benjamin just are not good enough. City yearn for K Moore and need a creative dynamic central midfielder. There’s only one match day loan spot available if all the 4 so far loaned are in it. He states we can only have 5 - yes in the match day squad - but can have 8 overall. We’ve let in 6. We’ve scored 4. It’s a catch 22 position. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/what-expect-cardiff-city-last-27560775
Thankfully we can't afford him. Anyway does he fit any of the profiles suggested by Ninian? Unlikely to be a popular addition to any Prem or even Championship changing room.
A few of our players loaned out had game time on the weekend, one or two didnt. Isaak Davies also made his debut for Vincent Tan's KV Kortrijk in the Belgian top flight, coming on at half-time and playing 45 minutes in the 3-1 defeat by KAS Eupen. Sheyi Ojo, who also sealed a loan to Kortrijk last week, was not named in the squad.
