An Iron in peace, and a friend of Chunky's. Were you happy or not to offload George McCartney to us on loan for this Season?. A graduate from Sunderland's youth set-up, he was Player of the Year in the 04-05 Season, 157 Senior appearances then came down to us in August 06. He had a slow start but a stonking 07-08 Season where he came runner up to Greeno in our Player of the Year. Sunderland then bought him back for an undisclosed sum in September 08 on a five year deal. 2 loan spells to Leeds then back to WHU this August for the Season.

His first spell with us was impressive but this time he has been a crock of ****e.
Doesn't get stuck in, spends more time running backwards, and if all else fails, which it usually does, he grabs the opposition's player and pulls them back. Every bloody time.
Anyhow, question- can you see a future for him back at the SOL?

He was exactly the same for Leeds last season. Backed off everything and just allowed wingers to skin him. Useless waste of a space on the teamsheet.

That'd be funny if it wasn't my team who've got him.
He plays right in front of me at the Boleyn's home games and it isn't the same player we had there from 06 to 08.
He looks sluggish, half hearted and gets left behind so often it's not even funny any more.
You gave him a 5 year contract so he'll go back to you as I can't see us extending his loan, hence the original question.

What was he like with you first time round, he must have done something right or why would you have him back again?

He put a few 5 or 6 out of 10s in at first (to the point where I was happy the loan was extended), but then deteriorated and was a major reason why we conceded so many goals.

His seeming inability to tackle has lead to the same for us this Season, and he's had a few close shaves where he'd have been carded had the ref seen him. I want him gone, the sooner the better. Shame as he obviously had something there.

He been part of a group of players that really have no future at the club, along with Kilgallon and Nosworthy, all earning decent wages for sitting on their arses, and basically their career's are going no-where here.

Now if all these players can re-discover some form, they could do a decent job somewhere, fortunatly for you W Ham are probably gonna be a Prem team again, and he is not up to that standard anymore, so he will be returned and then SAFC will have the problem again, in trying to offload him again.

To be honest, the way he's been playing lately has him struggling in the Championship, let alone back with the big boys.
Seems he, and a few others from what your post says, will be going down the loan-out-till-contract-goes road, unless a smaller Club comes in with an offer.
I suppose the Club will want to regain what they paid for him, was that figure ever made known to you as WHU says 'undisclosed'?

My only regret is the loan bit, we could end up with him back again.

Most of us had similar thoughts after we bought him back from WHUFC.

As a young lad if had massive potential. If never quite realised that potential over the years and now he's an embarrassment to the game. Mind, he's still earning top dollar for being ****e.

    Come back to the SOL?

    Negative.

Not sure what's happened to McCartney, but the sooner he's officially off our books the better! I was over the moon to see him come back, although 6m was way too high to pay for him!!
