Odd question, but I'll play (without wanting to get into a saga).
    1. He isn't.
    2. We weren't talking about managing a 'top PL club'
    3. Yes, probably. But if a 'top PL club' was daft enough, then that's their prerogative I guess. To my mind, it's a bit different when it's the National Team we're talking about.

They perhaps would if the media and others marketed as much as they have the senior women's game.:emoticon-0105-wink:

Was just curious as he was the last English manager. And also he's a man so many would find it more acceptable. That's all.

I also think moving from one national team to another regardless of gender is a lot more similar and of a similar level of experience requirements than moving from a national set up to a club set up.

This World Cup is expected to exceed 2 billion viewers, up from 1.12b who watched the last Women's World Cup.

Begrudgingly? They would be a tad goosed financially if it came to the money men saying "see ya then". The only fair comparison is to wait four years and see what is offered then. As for viewing figures here in the UK, tomorrow may well set a record for the womens game. IF, England were not in the final, probably as many as watch Coronation Street.

You're the same number of viewers as if you were to watch seven of the men's matches.

I've just seen that the Women's football league has refused to allow this weekends games to be postponed, so the teams who are due to play on Sunday (which includes Hull City Ladies), will forfeit the game if the players watch the World Cup final instead. A monumentally stupid decision.

Ridiculous. Our men's Aussie Rules comp delayed the start of games so the players and supporters could watch the Matildas shoot out against France and that's a competing code and the men's competition! Let alone same code and same gender..

    I think I answered your question. <doh>

Yes one person watching seven matches is counted as 7 viewers. Just like if one person watches seven matches of the men's world cup it would be counted as 7 viewers. Is that clearer?

What if there are seven of you in one house, but some are making the tea so not actually watching? Or if you have some other programme on another TV in the same room, or are doing something else at the same time so are only half watching? <laugh>

the whole point is that you didnt answer the question
you just compared it to men's football
you explained it in ths second paragraph
it's good to know both figures: how many people watched matches and how many people watched each match in total

The other fun thing to consider is all the live sites and pubs showing games on one TV with hundreds or thousands of people watching. So it works both ways and more than balances out.

do they have a combination of methods to compile the number?
some have TVs that actually see who is watching
and they go round stopping people in the street and ask them what they watched in the last week

    I dont understand your point
why does it matter how many TVs are used?
surely it only matters how many watch the matches

It matters because that's how they track viewers. I thought that was obvious.

Do you honestly think they work out how many people are sat in front of the TV in each house? Or do you think they probably take an estimate?

I haven't got a clue how they do it, but it can only ever be a best guess, and some of the figures I've seen for viewing figures for a number of programmes have seemed questionable to say the least.

Ultimately, they've reached the pinnacle of their chosen sport, and can't be asked to do more than that, so fair play to them.

I do think the arguments for them as individuals receiving greater financial reward because of some loose comparison to the (so called) male equivalents is weak for a host of reasons, I doubt they'd score as many against male keepers alone being one, but people enjoy it, and I'd be happy to see greater investment in grass roots football, and sport in general and that should be inclusive to all.

There are massive benefits to society in doing that, that far outweigh the costs in my opinion.

I do not envisage many people here in the UK rushing to the pub tomorrow to watch the final. Kick off is at 11am. Pubs open at 12. It is being broadcast on both the BBC and ITV. The viewing figures therefore should be rather accurate.
