Why would he extend his current contract on championship wages when there are offers on the table for premier league wages? Both now and if not then when his current one expires? That isn’t sensible And “replace” might have been a poor choice of words. Point is whether it is him or a new signing this summer, chances are we’d need someone new in should we get promoted Although it is worth noting that we don’t seem to be playing a two striker system - so signing someone to play with him doesn’t seem like it will work
Realistic? One of the worst yet only one of the players that have left has actually appeared for us in the 2 games. There’s actually a structure with our play now, we are looking promising, so the players leaving other than Prowse have not actually contributed to that
I don't mind anyone leaving to be honest. If Charly stays it will be a bonus, but last season's team let us down once too often. This rebuild starts with the wrecking ball, and I would rather it took two years to go back up with a team we can love than last year's rejects bounced us straight back to the prem. Let's make 3 really excellent signings in the next few weeks and sell as many of these idiots as we can!
An old head on young shoulders? You make him sound like he is getting carried to school by his grampa.
Quite. See also Tella and KWP. And we've got sums in excess of what I'd envisaged for players leaving. We've also got potentially one of the best centre halves in the league and most distructive wingers still here who we assume will leave before the end of the window but have not of yet. Things have dragged on longer than we'd anticipated but there's still plenty of time to get the right players in. Was speaking to a Leicester fan this week and whilst the perception is that they have done magnificent business, the reality is that if they don't go up this season they will be in serious trouble. It's a really difficult balance. Also, Ampadu aside, Leeds are having a howler of a transfer window. We're still in a good spot to attack this league. God, I feel all dirty and positive.
One of the aggregator accounts has Martin as saying we are looking for another body in midfield in addition to Downes. Not sure whether this is good news in general or concerning in suggesting Smallbone is out for a while I have to assume it is not based on more sales in that department I think it is how I’ve tried to work it out before - there are some players that if we sell we will be replacing 1 for 1 and some where that isn’t the case. JWP and Lavia seem to be that. I can only assume KWP, Adams and and central defender fits that as well. I’m not sure it Tino did because no one has come in. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see a full back even if KWP stays. We were linked with Aarons when Tino was leaving and it didn’t seem to be in connection to KWP also going. Players where were won’t get a 1 for 1 (I don’t think) are Onuachu, Bree and Aribo. Maybe Djenepo. But no one seems eager for any of them. They have “deadline day loan to minimise wage outlay of loaning club” written all over them. No idea about Perraud - we signed someone to clearly take his place. Meghoma probably isn’t ready for backup and Larios is always injured.
Still a couple of weeks to go The window has gone pretty much how I expected it to really. There were about 10 players I expected to leave and I didn’t think we would be out signing players until they left. The fact the club stuck to its guns regarding prices is why we are now 2 weeks from the window shutting and not having the squad together. We could’ve sold all the players cheaper in June and built a squad by now but we went a different route. Wait to see how the squad looks on the Sept 1st and if we can keep up a 4 point from 6 record until then then I think we will be in the mix by the end of the season
It will happen as well. Money talks. Super league by stealth. If they aren’t allowed wild card entries (and straight to the group stages of course) then they’d do what they did in Golf and just be overt about it
Of course it will. I think it's hilarious personally and look forward to all the tears from the 'istoreee clubs.
I think the window has been ok from an out perspective. We've lost 3 players that we would have liked to keep (Lavia, JWP, Tino) plus another 4 that have recouped money (Diallo, Orsic, Salisu, DCC). We've also released 3 high earners (Theo, Willy, Ely). In all that we've had ~£150m of sales. Granted, not all that money is coming to us due to the clauses of some but it's not bad with 2 weeks still remaining. I don't expect to see ABK, Sulemana and Tall Paul at the club past August 31st. I'm hoping that we can retain Alcaraz, KWP and Adams but if we can't, I expect they will be replaced. Inbound is where we've been a bit sheepish with only 2 first teamers coming in (Manning and Charles) at the cost of ~£15m. Downes coming in imminently plus I expect us to move on targets this week now that Lavia and JWP were finalised in the last few days. In addition, Smallbone, Stephens and Tella are arguably incoming players. I believe we'll be busy for the next two weeks!
