I’d suggest any striker we sign whilst in the championship has a good chance of struggling in the PL. After all the ones we signed with the lure of the PL also struggled …
Worth noting - he is reported to have had food poisoning. There are many people who consider your gut health to be a vital pillar and that gut issues can have a detrimental impact on almost everything else. So perhaps trying to rush a medical so soon after food poisoning would just see him fail it ?
Well, to an extent. But we would ask stupid money for certain players because we do not want to lose them and they are happy here for the season. By the sounds of that, Che wants to go and we will likely accept an offer that isn't West Ham low balling tactics because he only has a year left.
Now go and light up the PL!! Excellent player and nice to know Saints have provided a good take off zone for you!!
This. Even if he was fit enough to pass a medical he wouldn't be able to play tomorrow anyway as he wouldn't be anywhere near match fit.
Watched an old clip of Saints beating Ipswich 5-2 at Portman Road. Rickie ran the show plus 2 goals! Need that flowing stuff again!!
That's possibly my fav away Saints game of all time. Incredible performance and really announced us as genuine contenders.
So we would be pragmatic? I had Che on the list of people who were almost certain to go especially with his contract situation. He failed for us in the premier league. Missed absolute sitters that had he converted we wouldn’t have gone down There is also a sliding doors moment where had he not scored those two goals against Leicester last August we would have sold him and signed someone else to lead the line last year. Whether that would have worked remains to be seen He is definitely good enough to lead our line this year. But in a best case scenario we’d have to extend his contract and give him premier league wages to do so - even if he agreed. And then replace him if we go up regardless Granted there is a good chance we ultimately need to replace whoever we get in as a replacement. But we know for a fact we’d need a Che upgrade even if he fired us to promotion
I disagree with this notion that Che isn't PL quality. He's definitely not a natural goalscorer but he's still almost certainly good enough to play at that level alongside a goalscorer. His main problrm last season is that we were playing him as our main striker and on his own a lot which doesn't suit him at all. The fact that multiple PL sides have been interested in him this Summer and last would suggest that many in the game think he's good enough for the top flight.
Agree. Which is why I'd be very happy with Piroe right now. Look no further than putting us in the best position to go up and who knows. I suppose I just mean I don't see him as a Mitrovic, Kevin Phillips or even Ricky Lambert who just looked a cut above this level. Like maybe a Broja type might (unattainable really as you've alluded to)
Also I feel we need a striker regardless so two if Che goes. Piroe plus another. Sell Onoachu and loan out Mara.
So far I'd say the window has been pretty crap, but only on the basis that it were to end today. If we cut the deadwood (djenepo, lyanco, Onuachu, Macca, mara), bring Downes and a ST, CM & CB then it will have been a very good window. Just have to hope that is what will happen in the next couple of weeks.
I'm sure the club would be pragmatic with what they will do with Che, it's their money and grand plan going forward. Doesn't stop me as a fan being disappointed with what RM said about the situation because I would rather he stay. IMO Che is good enough to be our main striker this season and is good enough to be a support striker in the PL like he was alongside Ings. I also disagree that if we offered him a new contract it would have to be on PL wages. I don't think he's that unreasonable when nobody else would be and we wouldn't offer that, but no doubt you can have the opposite of a relegation clause and put his wages up should we get promoted. I disagree, that we'd have to replace him should we get promoted too. Just that we would need to bring in a better goalscorer to play alongside him.
So far we’ve lost (or are losing) all the good players, and struggled to get rid of the crap ones. The window has been worse than even the most negative posters on here could have predicted so far in my opinion. However, still a couple of weeks and in theory we have a big wedge of cash to spend. I will keep the faith until the end of the window
