The same could be said of the 'Great Raich Carter's' team of 48/49, except it was Third Division North Champions. As I always say, I know what we are, some of us do.
We don't have a lot to shout about which is one of the reasons I was so vocal in speaking up for the reign of the Allams.

Oh I agree and it’s our history I just think you’re over egging it

I first saw waggy play on the university pitches back of cranbrook Ave
We lived on there and the old man took me and my brother on there on a Saturday morning to see waggy play for the reserves
Musta been coming back from injury
Always remember my old man saying watch him just watch him and what he does

I'm not over egging it Chazz. It was magical following City as a lad from the signing of Ken Wagstaff in the autumn of 1964 up to Terry Neill dismembering the team after the 70/71 season fizzled out so disappointingly. Can you imagine a 3rd Division club signing three players for a total of £120,000 in those days? Like a League 1 club spending £12m, maybe more today, on just three players. It excited the whole city and we were getting gates comparable to clubs in the First Division, of course they departed just as quickly as they came, but for a time. the club, the stadium, and the expectation was we were bound for the First Division. Over 40,000 for 3rd Div league fixture, with no away fans!!! imagine that Chazz, that was our potential in those days. You had to be there matey, it was truly magical.

I don't really care what others think. That team with all the players mentioned in the various posts ignited my love for HULL CITY. I finally got my old man to take me to a night match with 30,000 plus in attendance and I was hooked. The lights, the turf, the crowd. What a buzz.

Thanks to all that made it what it was.

I'm off to mae bed noo.

I do have a copy of CC's autobiograhy, a decent read. Also have a copy of the program for his Benefit match against Leeds held in May '71 @ B.Park.

Chris Chilton signed also my copy of Waggy's autobio., along with around 30 ex-City players signatures, which I picked up at the last game played at B.P. I bought 3 copies, all signed, directly by Waggy, 2 for mates of mine from Hull living here in Toronto - both City fans. One, best man at my wedding, still comes round to listen to live City matches on the net. Waggy also signed my copy of Tom Courtenay's autobiography, last time I saw Waggy in his pub on the Weir in Hessle.

Back on topic - I'm not sure who told me that Cloughie was interested in signing the dynamic duo, may have been Waggy himself or some punter in his pub. Any way, always found him amiable when chatting with him.

So presumably you'd only class it as a good season if a third division side won the first division? For a third division side to win the third division is just average. I know you like to be a contrarian at every opportunity, but this just makes you look like a tit.

It shouldn't be forgotten that City in 1965/66 got to the 6th round of the Cup, beating Southampton & Forest who were Div 1 sides and then drawing with Chelsea at Stamford bridge.

In 1964 swansea got relegated from division 2 but got to the semi final of the fa cup beating Liverpool who won the first division title that season and beating Stoke and Sheffield u
    So what’s your point?
I appreciate it seems like it was an enjoyable time to support city and waggy was a great player for us but in the grand scheme of things we weren’t great.
And the crowds then were as fickle as they are now

Let's all agree whatever league we were in that team was brilliant and Waggy and Chillo were bloody great together. Wouldn't we want them now ? I think that's a big yes.

I think the point I’m making was that team wasn’t brilliant and the league positions bear this out
But ye they were great players for us

However good or 'indifferent' we were I loved watching us and seeing Waggy put Banks on his arse was great.

My MIL used to walk her kids to school with Gordon Banks and his kids. Not a lot of people know that (me and her i think).

Can you imagine a footballer today walking his kids to school with the neighbour?

Of course I wasn't trying to be condescending. Impressive use of a big word, though.
