You're both right actually. If you go into administration before a certain date (some time in March - I think it might be the last Thursday in March?), then you get the deduction immediately. No questions asked; league position irrelevent. After that date, the eventual outcome of your season will ultimately decide on whether the deduction is applied in the current season or the following season. Quite simply, we went into admin after the deadline, Pompey went into it before.
If you go into administration more than once then the deduction is increased! Guarantee no one will notice or care though! Typical skates to get off lightly, AGAIN!
As Le Tiss also stated in his biography: We had the option to go into administration before March. (I think we were bottom. 6ish at that point) And Lowe declined, believing that we could still stay up with kids. Le Tiss states it was one hell of a gamble that didn't pay off!
I don't see why you think we got off lightly before? We went into administration, we got a points deduction. Nothing light about that. Anyway, this is all a bit preemptive.... It's not even certain that we're going to end up in administration.
Pompey won't go into administration. You were already effectively down, if anything you played better and out up more of a fight after you had the deduction. Judge said you were trading 'insolvent'. Any other company would have been put under... Nothing against Pompey, just common sense...
Ok it's a comedy franchise... but surely PFC need to think of their own band of fans, before entertaining everybody else
To be fair, we were down the moment we appointed Paul Hart as full time manager (no offense to him, I'm sure he's a nice person but he wasn't the best manager). So you'd rather Portsmouth had been wound up, resulting the loss of hundreds of jobs of admin and clerical staff, as well as our creditors getting absolutely nothing? Regardless of whether that is what 'should' have happened from a technical point of view, what happened was perhaps best from a practical point for all concerned. At least, insofar as possible for a team that's been living beyond it's means.
We've both had a poor run of it over the last few years off the field (for us it's on the up finally), the most important thing is that in 31 days we get to go at it ON the field
I don't think the situation will be as severe as the Football Club going back into administration but I just thought I would point it out, because it's f*cking hilarious.
Sorry Lapras I'm not saying that. I mean in the course of things any business trading insolvent would be wound up. PFC is a business so should have been wound up. Court took the cheap way out offering 20p in a £1 etc... So Pompey don't have to pay all the millions back. I never wanted it to happen. But sooner or later HMRC will have enough and will throw the book at a club!
That's true, but I guess maybe people would argue football clubs are unique due to their position in the local community and the fact that being wound up would have a knock on effect for many other local businesses. If that does happen, it'll probably be some non-league club. Possibly Farnborough :S Anyhow, we got a lot of stick for only paying back 20p per £1 but isn't that what most teams that go into administration do? Pay back less than they owe? Except for Southampton of course, but we're not all lucky enough to have a rich, benevolent businessman take an interest in us unfortunately
No I guess not... Never wanted Pompey to go out of business. Would have to have had Bournemouth as rivals! They were pathetic thinking that they were all that last season, trying to start fights and a rivalry and how we are apparently sh!t. Well we won all 3 games against them last year, scoring 7 and conceding 1! And look where we are now!
Trouble is it would seem that Saints had a know-it all-chairman at the time. Who it would seem tried to play fast and loose with the league which quite frankly didn't work. The football club didn't go into administration as we know it was the parent company, which the league decided were the same. As a result by the time we were put into administration it was past the sell by date is my understanding.
With the Saints case the penalty would have been enforced in the original season if it would have relegated them. Yes that is correct because [and this is the important point] they went into admin after the cut-off date. Had they gone into admin before the cut-off date (don't ask me what it is as I don't know) the deduction would have been administered immediately, regardless on the effect on their league standing and they would have started life in League One on zero, rather than minus-ten.
Technically we should have got away with it as the rules did not cover the instance of a parent company going into admin. However the FL investigation was a means to the correct result IMHO. The skates also had the rules applied but because they were the first PL club into admin there was no if relegated points will be applied next season. From that view of shelling out £120m and a relegation anyway it seems little justice for the crime but the rules were applied correctly. They are still yet to service the CVA, the first payment is due in April. The bank has no involvement with CSI the owners so will not effect the skates.
I reckon at the time, we were doubly punished for the same crime, however I wouldn't have missed what happened as result, it has been a fun ride getting to where we are now, just hope we can keep the momentum going. As for Portsmouth I just hope their luck changes for the better, I don't want to see any team knocked down by mismanagement and other outside interference, even my greatest rival fans don't deserve that.
Fear not everybody, we'll be just fine. Our owners passed the 'fit and proper' persons test with flying colours. Let's face it, the Football League would have made sure all was squeaky clean because it was us. Anyway, Dubov and Antonov have got more than a smaal fortune squirrelled away...and then there's the IMF if that fails, so you deckchairs have nothing to be concerned about- you're favourite adversary is alive, kicking and waiting for you.....
Lets be honest guys, the football league make up their rules as they go along. it is run by a bunch of clowns who do not have a clue! Just a small point Lampras: a load of Pompey creditors have still not received a penny, despite assurances from the club that the creditors owed up to £2000 would be paid in full. At the last Pompey Forum one of those unfortunate asked the question of Lampitt (quote) "when will we get paid?" The lame answer was (quote) "it,s one of those things we haven,t yet got around to sorting out"
Why in Gods name are we looking backwards. I don't want to think of those dark days ever again. Lets look forwards, which looks far more bright for Saints!
