Wayyy over the top IMO tbh I doubt it will never be St James Park again and if his dad was that much of a fan he got a heritage stone in his memory I am sure he'd have stuck with the club and not left so let his memory stay at the club

    This.

It's not like you scatter someone's ashes thinking they'll always remain there, ignoring things like stadium refurbishment, weather, etc

i never said it was a bit silly to say something is a bit silly because you don't subscribe to their way of thinking of something being a bit silly because they don't subscribe to that way of thinking? i merely asked albert if he thought it's a bit silly to say something is a bit silly just because you don't subscribe to their way of thinking (that the club and all of its history are one and the same). i am aware that albert didn't say it was a bit silly but nor did he say it was a bit silly to say it was a bit silly.

cleared that up for you colly?

    Not in the slightest. :steam:

Anyway, read the actual Facebook thing, what a fooligan. It's still in St James Walk which hasn't changed its name as far as I know.

    Put it this way.

If I asked for something like that to be done after I died, I couldn't give two ****s if some Alien overlord changed St James' into a giant satellite dish years after I died because that's part of the history of the ground as well as everything before it....

....unless the Alien overlord had some sort of time travelling device and enslaved the earth's populace before the club was formed therefore resulting in the club never existing, then I'd be pissed!

oh so we're going there are we? hahaha

how about if ashley changed the name to The Newcastle Directs? hypothetically obviously (touch wood), but how would you feel (assuming you're alive and not a stone in a pathway)?

As long as it's the same club and structure, it could be called Big Issue United for all I care. <ok>

I bought a heritage stone and to be fair, I can see where they're coming from. Anyone who bought one was sold the chance to become part of St James Park history forever. Now its no longer St James Park then we have been sold something under false pretenses.

As for going up to remove it, I'm not sure about that. Surely they should just request the club refund the £50 or whatever it was they sold them at?

I can't believe any Newcastle supporter would actually support the stadium name change. I'm not one for usually saying things like this, but you can't really call yourself a supporter of the club if you're happy for 119 years of tradition to be trampled over. For those who say "there is nothing we can do anyway so I'm not bothered" I can understand that, but to actually support it is just plain wrong and shows a total lack of respect for the club you supposedly support. All for a bit of cash, pathetic.

Howay Pouch, thats madness. Appreciate the preface of 'not being one for saying things like this', but I fully consider myself a supporter of the club. I don't think anyones particularly happy about it, and there's not a lot of unconditional 'support' for the move, but I think a lot of fans do understand the move. For me that 119 years of tradition is completely safe, its the place, not the name of the place, that has hosted so much glory, failure, mainly glorious failure over the years, and will continue to.

Those heritage stones are still outside the ground that saw Milburn, McDonald etc, if we'd moved ground (as I think you've previously said you'd not be against?) when it was proposed a decade ago they would be under an office block...

Just because Mike Ashley has now said the St James' Park is called Sports Direct Arena and officially it might be called that but that does not mean that it is not St James' Park anymore. It is still the same building in the same location with all of the same memories and history, nothing has changed. If you were called Robert and someone started to call you Ted then you would still not be Ted, you would be Robert still. I can call a bear a dog, it does not change the fact that it is a bear.

Maybe I was a bit harsh on the name change and support of it. It just disappoints me that there is a minority who actually support the idea. I care papssionately about the club and all the history that comes with it. To sell off some of it to line your pockets will never sit well with me. Its not progress, and to me the name is worth more than the small amount of money this venture will bring in. (it won't be any 10m unless you live in cloud cuckoo land) But i do retract the harshness of the first statement. You know my feelings on where the line is with sponsorship and things. If this ok then so is changing our name and colours, and I couldn't see that as progress.

As for the heritage stones, while the stadium is still there, it should be called St James Park as that is what I was sold at the time. I won't be writing to the club for my money back, but I do feel those who do feel strongly enough are entitled to their money back given they no longer have what they were sold. I don't agree with going to remove your stone thoguh. As for ground moves, it'll never be neccessary and never would have been so I don't really see it as an issue to be honest. That was just Freddies pie in the sky stuff.
