I don’t know much about him. But wouldn’t put it past them to try and make a signing that is seen as beating a rival to a player. Or could be sold that way. But maybe this guy from stuttgart is a hidden gem that is their main signing
Was always going to be a struggle to hold onto him considering Chelsea tried to sign him a month after we bought him. Wish him well, never complained whilst we held out for a fair price and has got his move. Hope he gets game time as he has a lot to compete with and thought that was the reason he left city in the first place. Wonder what happens to Gallagher and Broja after all of these signings? (Would be great if we included a loan in the negotiation like Jwp)
We need to concentrate on quality incomings now. I make that about £100m clear profit w/Lavia & £5-6m off wages. Time for action SR.
I've no doubt we still are trying to dispose of quite a few as we have a large squad still, but hopefully the money we've received takes the pressure off having to ship them out before bringing players in. I imagine quite a few of our duds will be sent out on loan towards the end of the window, probably with us picking up a reasonable percentage of the wages, but so long as we get them out the way for the season thats better than nothing. Can't really afford to wait until we get the likes of Lyanco, Aribo, Tall Paul et al off the books before bringing in the players we need, if it's going to take until the final days of the window to shift them.
They will spin this as a win - claiming they needed “the finished article” and have got one for circa 40m less than Lavia Doesn’t seem like a bad move on paper - apparently he was Stuttgart captain so is presumably a leader. But still a come down from their original attempts. But they are looking for a another player it seems
I think there are some players that will be moved on with no replacements coming in. Including (I expect) a couple of those mentioned. So i’d like to think incomings are not impacted by some of the potential departures
As per the fans forum it’s very simplistic to see this as pure profit ready to plough out on signings but it’s far more complicated than that - still paying off previous signings, structure of deals etc. I think we are definitely healthy and should expect some decent incomings but let’s not kid ourselves that we can (or even should) blow £100m.
Oh I agree. We badly needed and need to cut down on the squad size. By not buying until we shift a few I don't necessarily mean per position, but just because it's a risky game to already have a big squad on relatively high wages for this league, and then bring in more players without knowing that you will be able to get some of the existing lot off the books.
Surely only if KWP is off? Unless we use Spence , KWP and Manning as our main options - utilising KWPs versatility Does Spence even fit this system? I always got the impression he was a pure wing back who needed to play as part of a back 3/5
The flip side to this is that if he goes on loan to a premier league side (as he apparently wants - but don’t they all) then that is one more club that won’t have space for KWP. Cutting down the options
To be fair, this was the part of the window I was most excited about. With a clear pathway to first team squad, a pot of cash and a club that all of a sudden seems to have a bit of backbone and structure - I think we are a really, really attractive proposition for the very best loanees or players wanting to drop down/step up and prove something. We've done well to clear what we have. Expect another 3 or 4 out but equally think we'll see some exciting players come in to really give us some added quality.
Pretty obvious that we'd be interested in Djed Spence, if Spurs do want to loan him out. I'd imagine that the entire Championship would be interested in him. What I'm less so on is whether any PL clubs would be interested. But if they are, that is probably our hopes over.
