"PGMOL chief Howard Webb has made a big point of his organisation needing to be accountable for their errors so it should come as no surprise that Webb contacted Wolves officials to apologise for the non-penalty decision at Old Trafford last night." And - "Jon Moss, who manages the select group of Premier League officials, seeking out Gary O'Neil after the game to admit a mistake had been made." The only person in the football world who thinks it wasn't a penalty was ten Hag. Or as he put it, "not a penalty, but lucky" And some want City back playing in this circus.
I’d ****ing hate us to be in any league with VAR let alone one where such obvious errors are made to help the ‘big boys’
ive been thinking and top level football is not as fun as it used to be take haaland, he's an alien finisher and fantastic positioning etc but he's a not a 'fun' player to watch i feel like theres no 'flair' fun players these days, all systems players, long gone are the days of maradonna, the cryuffs, ronaldinhos, zlatans, tottis etc after messi, that's it just a mid afternoon rant
The thing is with the Wolves decision is this.. Some have Wolves in the relegation places (though not on last nights performance). Lets just say come May they're in the thick of it and for the the worst happens (think Leicester and Southampton)... and they go down on one goal difference or one point... it would cost them how many tens of millions if not more... what is a guarantee is, that if the keeper last night was a Luton player and they were hanging on 1-0, would it have been given.... you bet your arse it would...
I wouldn’t disagree though I do think Mbappe is an incredible player. The game is so slow nowadays the Pep effect.
Had similar thoughts for a long time. It's not totally true, but not far off. That's why I like(d) to watch players like Saint-Maximin. For me, that's what the game is all about. Also, that's what's refreshing about Vaughan; often time just gets the ball and looks to drive forward rather than performing like some robot.
You’ve got a point. Pep has never liked individual and/or flair players though. He got rid of Ronaldinho at Barça and has coached the flair out of Grealish and made him into a very effective system player. Guardiola’s gone on record saying he doesn’t care about beautiful football and just wants to win. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s had world-class players in his team but he either hammers out the individuality in flair players or just sells them. Brazilians have still got that element of showboating and flair but look at how British pundits view the likes of Richarlison and Antony.
Or if they stay up, that one point could be worth millions in place prize money. Every penny helps towards the FFP. That is, if you aren't that bothered by the odd quid or two over the limit, or have a billionaire or nation state as an owner.
Since you mention Brazilians, this is a bit of a generalisation based on a single thing so take it with a pinch of salt, but when Brazil got knocked out by Croatia in the last world cup I couldn't believe how stupidly they'd played after going ahead. They went ahead late on and were still throwing people forward and got pointlessly caught out on the break late on and then lost on pens. As an English football fan it was jarring to see a team so willingly naive to the reality of the situation they were in and seemingly not as bothered about winning as they were about sticking to their guns. No European side would have been playing like that at that stage of the game. Croatia were spent and nowhere near as talented as them; if they'd played keep ball or even just sat back a bit they'd have easily shut them out. It made me think that although Brazil still have some of the world's best players, I wonder when they'll next seriously compete at a world cup if the rest of the world has moved on to a more effective way of playing and they're still just attack attack attack.
Exactly... what if they had a worldie of a season and finished 7th by one point but with better goal difference than the 6th placed team. I dont know what clubs sign up for, but I would one of them to take the FA to court and win... that would stop the lunch allowances...
Problem with South American football is they have so many individually gifted players each want to do their own thing, but when they are in say a european team they shine more because they are probably one of the more gifted and makes them stand out when they do something, but when they all come together it is very difficult to make them all play as a team as each want to do their own thing. Brasil years ago had stars but they also had players who can play as a team that is what made them so strong back in the year.
Manchester United have told senior staff that they expect to bring Greenwood back into the senior set up. If he was a youngster/nobody who went through this process, he’d be sacked…
He’s got two years left on his contract. Given how much bad press his return would cause for the club, I’m surprised they aren’t just going to pay him to **** off and release him.
