So next up is an away trip to Plymouth, who last week had a good goalless draw away at Watford. And we had a drab, boring 4-4 draw with Norwich And now it’s confirmed, we start a new life without JWP, but life goes on. 1-3 saints.
I was talking to a couple of Argyle fans at the weekend as there's loads in my family, and they reckon it'll be close as they've got a good side. I'd hate to for us to underestimate them, but we should have enough to beat them, on paper anyway Edit. It's a shame we've got to play them on grass
Looks good to me, although I’d start with Manning rather than Perraud No more Adarma as CF definitely Good to see what Tella & Edozie can do later in the game versus tired defenders They both need to try and consolidate their claim to a starting spot
is there an inherent discrepancy in your description of the purpose/timing of Tella and Edozie? If they will be used 'later in the game versus tired defenders', then they would not 'consolidate their claim to a starting spot', as this would surely mean that they will not be used 'later in the game'. Or am I being more than usually pedantic?
Baz Kwp Bednarek Stephens Manning Stuart Charles Alcaraz Tella Che Armstrong Don't think downes will be ready to go straight into the team when he has not even signed let alone trained with the team yet.
McCarthy KWP Bednarek Stephens Manning Charles Alcaraz Stuey Tella Che A Armstrong Ameroid-mayo to come off the bench at 65 minutes and tear them up! I assume smallbone is injured?
I like the idea of moving Armstrong back to the left - but it does highlight how we need another striker option even if we keep hold of Che. Because there isn’t really anyone to bring on. But surely he has to start over Edozie this time. Hopefully we can move on Mara and Onuachu and bring someone else in who can perhaps play central and right. I specify right because we seem to have several who can operate from the left - Edozie, Armstrong, Sam AA. And I assume Tella as well? Piroe can apparently play off the right which will allow for rotation between him, Tella, Adams and Armstrong. But the word seems very much to be that we only get Piroe if Adams leaves This Genk player can apparently play across the forward line but he doesn’t seem like someone who can operate the lone central role
Don’t think Downes will start, Charles showed he will offer more protection than Smallbone as DM, but whether with Stuey & Charly alongside him, it might still be too attacking for comfort.
I thought Russ played that down a bit during the forum and said he won’t be available the weekend as a bit more serious than we hoped?
I don’t know about that. I think everyone assumed he was out for the weekend and that the more serious than hoped was that he was out for months rather than weeks. maybe that was misreported But we have been pretty bad for playing down injuries that turn out to be pretty bad
The messages this morning said “months not weeks”. But more recent quotes from the manager have it as out for the weekend, worse than we thought but not term/hopefully not too long. It is that vague last part that i don’t like. Too much like Lavia, ABK, Larios and even Tino. All seemed out for longer than originally expected / assumed
Would much rather we played Paul then sell him. From what i saw last season he constantly tried to knock the ball on for people to run onto but we were so defencive focused noone ran onto it which made him look poor. We then sent low crosses to his feet and only started high crosses when we took him off for our short strikers. The way we play the striker barely gets the ball with most of play coming from the wings at which point they cross to a sea of defence. We have the speed of edozie and tella for the through balls so let's get our 6ft 5 striker for the crosses on. I really can't understand why he isn't being played at all. Even the cup game where we played che. He might be **** in training but numerous players have stated some of the best players they have played with were shocking in training yet on fire in games.
Interesting how peoples opinions vary? For me tall Paul looks to be on a par with Carrillo, maybe thats slightly unfair as he's not had a run in the side but he looks extremely poor in all regards. His hold up play being his only redeeming skill, I would also say that for someone that tall, his heading ability looks woeful. he's come from a very poor Belgian league and hopefully he'll return there.
