Just hope we have a better ref than yesterday, she let a lot of the physical stuff from Colombia go...
Mead, Williamson and Kirby. Missing them far more than James. Those 3 would start in pretty much every other side. Take 3 of the best players out of any side and see what happens. As for the rest of what you say, it's exactly what I said. Too tight to call.
Stanway is nowhere near Kirby. I think Hemp is over rated. One trick pony who just runs with the ball. Her pace can make her a handful admittedly. I also think Bronze is massively over rated as it goes. If all the missing players were available I suspect they would play 4-3-3 with Hemp, Russo/Daly and Mead, with Walsh, James and Kirby behind them. Best attacking line up in the world imo.
The semi between Spain and Sweden is bloody awful. Sweden very physical and pressing high. Spain struggling with the press. Not much for either Australia or England to fear.
3 goals in the last few minutes. Spain 2-1 up with 5 minutes left. The Spanish keeper deserves an Oscar for her play acting.
Still some bitterness there? https://metro.co.uk/2023/08/15/aust...copter-to-spy-on-englands-lionesses-19338176/
The only bitter we have down here is along these lines ............. please log in to view this image
Whatever happens tonight, l just hope there is a clear winner and that the game doesn’t go extra time / shootout.
My daughter just got tickets to the game. I hope it lives up to the hype. I would never have believed that a women's football match could evoke such interest in a country that is obsessed by afl and rugby league. It's been a great ride regardless of tonight's outcome. Perhaps the government might now see fit to give them some support at grass roots level. (Rant over) Go you Matildas!
Is the support from the whole country or just the women that drag the kids to games season after season
I'd say whole country. Even my mates who were dead set against watching any of the games have come around and are enjoying the spectacle. They've just had to reign in expectations that they are watching football played at premier level and accept it as a good contest between the best women players. The tv ratings are the highest since Cathy Freeman won gold at the 2000 Olympics. I suspect tonight's ratings and audience figures will surpass that.
