I think Howard Webb needs to be decisive here and demote Michael Salisbury (VAR) to Championship football. He obviously can't be trusted with VAR. He can't clamp down on dissent and not do anything when a referee misses a blatant pen.

 

But clattering two people with your fists can hardly be seen as clear and obvious, Tom!

 

It's utterly appalling how Salisbury as VAR failed to ask Hooper to go to the monitor. It's unacceptable and he needs to be demoted.

 

Wolves robbed. Great performance from them and deserved at least a point.

Nah it doesn't. In this case I think the VAR completely bottled it and I think he was influenced, at least subconsciously, by the fact United were 1-0 up at home in injury time. But there have been plenty of occasions where the smaller club have got the decision.

 

I can’t name any times a small club gets a decision at old Trafford, anfield or etihad.

Even when they gave us a stonewall pen at the etihad last season, it miraculously got overturned.

The premier league is a money-making machine, not a sporting competition. They don’t want to damage their product by letting the big six fail.

 

Found an article where I found this:

"Per the numbers, the worst affected sides by VAR in the Premier League were Manchester City and Brighton, with both being four key decisions worse off overall because of the use of video technology."

So Man City, PL champions 3 times in a row, were the most affected negatively by VAR last season.

 

Also this:

"While rival fans often point out that Liverpool appear to live a charmed life when it comes to VAR, Jurgen Klopp's men were actually not the biggest beneficiaries of the video review system.

That distinction belongs to Brentford, who were six decisions better off overall thanks to the intervention of VAR."

So Brentford, the smallest team in the PL, benefitted most.

 

Meh. Maybe it’s just confirmation bias from me. But I am absolutely convinced that United etc get more decisions at home.
If that was the other end tonight, United would have been given a penalty, I have absolutely no doubt.

I just don’t trust the integrity of the premier league. At all. You can feel the difference in the EFL. There are mistakes for sure, but it feels like they balance out.

 

Interestingly, last season the VAR decisions completely evened themselves out for United - so they were equally positively and negatively impacted by VAR. So to say United get all the big decisions is clearly not true. They did tonight, I can't deny that.

 

Fair play. That’s pretty interesting.

I feel like with billions of £ on the line, they will try and favour making the most watched clubs to keep the money pouring in. Every time we have ever played a big six club, it has felt to me like we are playing the referee as well as the oppo.
Even little things like Chelsea’s midfielders never seem to get yellows for multiple fouls.

But on the other hand, at no other ground would have I have predicted that wouldn’t be given a penalty - despite how obviously it was one - and been so confident I would be correct. Stats don’t tell you how often VAR did not intervene, only how often it did, right? This non-interference today won’t be recorded as VAR and we can keep pretending Utd get equal treatment.

The ref was smiling away chatting to the United players the whole game. Star struck.

 

De Bruyne out for 3-4 months. You have to think Arsenal have an opportunity here.

 

I feel they’re a striker away from a title challenge.

Truly baffled that they wasted so much money on Kai Havertz

 

And a six figure a week contract for Nketiah.

 

But there’s always 2 ways of looking at that.

You could argue that those teams are therefor being given favourable decisions by the on field ref.. as var is only correcting incorrect calls (that’s if you take var at face value rather then the amount of times car then ****s up anyway).

The VAR tables mean nothing really because can use them to argue either side depending on what point trying to make.

 

Maybe because you’re one of the big teams now, so you’re getting those favourable decisions that Liverpool and man United get in the prem but you don’t notice them?

 

And it’s not just Var even if some readings say otherwise. It’s the whole picture of pressure on ref, “fergie time”, etc. The little stuff just adds up to a position for the favourite few.

 

Seems like Manchester United are beginning to pave the way for Mason Greenwood’s return based on their recent statement and PR…

I will be absolutely outraged when it happens. It is completely unacceptable
