Who is going to be our free kick talisman now? we have always had one through Le Tiss, Beatts, SRL and JWP.
Gutted. Genuinely gutted he’s gone. I had hope he would stay and lead us back up.. but I really can’t blame him for wanting to be at the top level. I think he is good enough to go to the euros, definitely good enough to be in the squad at minimum. So I hope he proves that. But, as Adam Blackmore said on the radio at the weekend, I do think he has taken quite a big risk here. There are no guarantees that he will thrive at West Ham. It could go either way. Regardless, he seems like an outstanding bloke and he is someone we can all be proud represented the club and the city. I wish him well. Thanks prowsey
A solid midfielder who put in the occasional motm performance, but was generally the type who went under the radar, doing the graft so others could grab the limelight. A really nice lad and fantastic that he's been with the club for such a long time. While he might have been a bit 'vanilla' to watch, I can't think of anything more satisfying, than a James Ward-Prowse free kick. Firstly, player X goes down, and the ref blows for a free kick. A bit of grumbling from around the stadium... a second or two passes, then the penny drops, "Hang on, this is Southampton. Oh ****, they've got James Ward-Prowse." Then a palpable sense of fear from the opposition fans (even more fun when its away from home), as the realisation sinks in, "Nah, I know he's good, but look how far out he is. He's not that good..." Nerves. Sweat. Fingernails. Prowsey lines it up, total silence from the crowd, "Here he goes...." He runs up, and... I can't believe we won't have these moments any more. I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from cheering whenever he scores a free kick for West Ham this season. Habits die hard.
An all round good lad. Honest and a true saints fan. If we bled, he bled. Wonderful at free kicks and a good reader of the game. I wish him well, but have my doubts that he will necessarily shine at another club. Hope to be proved wrong . Good luck, James
JWP is a brilliant example for any professional and as a local lad he is everything that this club strives and should continue to strive to be. JWP has not been blessed with any kind of exceptional athletic or physical ability. Everything he has achieved is because of his obsession and dedication to football and to be the best he can be. That’s why he ran further than anyone else, practised his dead ball technique continuously. It was great to watch him evolve as a footballer. I feel sorry for him that his last season was so miserable, but pleased he got that win at Hillsborough and played a vital role in the winning goal. hope you make it to the Euros James
Did a great job for us and it is great to see the academy do its job. But he left when we needed him most for the good of his own career. Which is completely fair enough tbh but we shouldn't spend any time pining for him or caring all that much about how he does at West Ham. We got a decent fee and his replacement is on the way and thats all we should care about.
I don't think that anyone is "pining" for him, it's just an appreciation for his long service to the club.
Understand his decision. Good man and genuine I believe. Real shame, but I feel ready to move on. COYRs.
You will be missed. Thank you so much for your service to Saints. I believe that if we were still in the Prem you would still be here. All the best James go and get that free kick record but sad that it's not with us.
Your $hithousery last season wasn`t quite up to your usual standards ! All the best James - it`s a matter of time before the freekick record is yours, and I hope you make the national squad again. Top bloke.
As sad about JWP's departure as I was about Morgan's, perhaps possibly less. JWP is a great player but it was wrong to make him Captain as he isn't captain material and it took a lot out of his game. I just refuse to have heroes now. That doesn't mean I don't wish him well. I will applaud him should we ever see him at St Mary's and thank him for everything he gave to our club.
Brilliant bloke. Not quite a legend for me but definitely a Super Saint. Love him & sad he’s gone. Wish him well but don’t like Wet Spam so that’s hard for me. Sorta hope he has an okish season, we get promoted at the first attempt & then buy him back to finish what he started.
It hurts seeing him in another teams shirt, but this is no Adam Lallana, this is more Rickie Lambert, I don't blame him at all after our relegation. Always felt he would stay with us providing we were in the Premier League, a bit like Le Tiss! Alas it was not to be. Great player, great guy, always a Saint, maybe he will come home some day! Hope it works out for him, not sure it will. Not because of his ability or work rate, more because the manager won't always pick him and fans won't always be behind him.
