Wow £60 million for Lavia? Great work by Wilcox if true and shows why we have had to wait to do deal as need to get best prices for most sellable assets. Lucky we’ve been able to do this as fire sale was not needed. So that will be £48 million in the bank after giving ****ty their 20%
I’m not sure we will be getting both Downes and Grimes despite letting Diallo, JWP and Lavia leave. Seems like it will Smallbone, Charles and Downes as replacements for each. Ignores that we seemed a little light in that position last year. But I guess both Downes and Charles could play as a defensive “6” when last year we only had one Others have also mentioned that it’s only us fans that have linked us with Grimes. Seems like that one might only happen if Smallbone also leaves
I think it is only the overwhelming pro Liverpool journalists saying he prefers Liverpool. And I don’t think a 5m difference will stop Chelsea matching that Liverpool bid whether or not they need a striker They might only try and loan a striker because they did sign one who got a 4 month injury
Funnily, if Liverpool had matched our valuation at the second, or third, attempt, they would now own Lavia and have £10M extra in the bank.
I was thinking the same. £50M a few weeks back and Lavia, apparently, wanting to join - could have been a done deal.
Think Wet Spam have over done the golf theme with JWP. Really appears as though they have signed him to have a go at winning The British Open
I imagine it also comes from the fact that it was just Liverpool in for him for months and he had agreed personal terms with them ages ago now. In his head at that point he was going there. His opinion may well have changed given how they treated him with messing around low balling us for ages despite knowing our selling price, and then suddenly coming in with a massive bid for Caicedo instead of Lavia, but now that's failed they've come crawling back for him. Chelsea may well match or beat Liverpool latest bid, but don't see it getting out of hand like it did with Caicedo because of what they've spent on Caicedo. Would love it if they do it just to make Liverpool pay more because we all know know that they have the money and desperately need a DM and it would just be payback for the price hike of the Caicedo deal!
I think l would like to see that spent on a commanding centre back after seeing the four goals we conceded at the weekend!
Leeds losing another one of their better players in Harrison again only a loan so no money in. Also couple of big players refusing to play. Makes our transfer outgoings even better when you look how the club and Wilcox have played things so far. Let’s hope for a few new faces to come in now.
Dream scenario would be for Chelsea to keep increasing the bid. We all joked about a bidding war and level headed posters on here noted that they assumed it would be unlikely because the price was so clearly 50m and that it would unsettle the player. Grumpy scousers also said the same. But that doesn’t seem to have happened because the scenario envisaged was us upping the price - not those doing the bidding
I'd be tempted to put some of that money towards persuading Che Adams to stay and sign a new contract. Extend by one year with a release clause that can't be activated until next summer. Get his wages back up to his PL level (or slightly above). After all, an extra £20k per week is £1m per year.
Perhaps the extra funds allow us to look in the tier above Holgate. One can hope. Rather than using those to bridge the apparent wage gap. I’d prefer the former Thing about signing a new defender who would start is it boots bednarek out of the team. Which probably seem him leave as well meaning we need to bring two in. Which is where the links to this bristol city guy who can also play right back might come in. Bednarek isn’t settling for third choice in the championship but the new captain is presumably a starter …
Silly buggers could've signed him 3 weeks ago and played him yesterday. Self entitlement always bites you on the bottom.
