Just seen this 10 minutes before taking off at Heathrow. Don’t mind me, I’ll be the one staring out the window with a tear rolling down my cheek.
I've had almost a week to come to terms with JWP's departure so the official news doesn't sting as much as I thought it would. Just relieved it's all done now. Thanks Prowsie, but it's time to move forwards.
Aye if we get Downes and Grimes in then that is a strong midfield for the season even with JWP and Lavia moved on. It’s a shame, but probably one that suits both parties for now, he is a PL level player and we need the resources to rebuild.
Thats the thing. It is sad because he's been here so long and lead by example and often been the only one fighting for safety. But I accepted at the end of last season that he was going when he was subbed off early in the final game of the season to get his moment. Then this whole affair with West Ham has dragged and dragged which whilst annoying, has also allowed us to accept it and get used to the idea of life at Saints without JWP. It was weird seeing the team led out on Saturday by Stephens and not JWP but I think we are all ready to just move on now. Thanks for everything JWP. Proper Saints legend in my books.
I don't know if this is true or not, but I did wonder that after having shown they have the money for a DM with the massive offer for Caidedo, and now having missed out on Caicedo, and with Lavia supposedly preferring Liverpool...I did think they might up their bid to make it more straightforward and outbid Chelsea who presumably will have more of a limit on what they can offer for Lavia given what they've spunked on Caicedo. Plus Chelsea still need a striker. Wherever he goes I don't really care. Just want to get it sorted asap now. If it's for around £60m then fantastic.
Does anyone know the loan rules in the Championship? Downes sounds like he will be taking one of the slots, how many more do we have? Whilst it’s obviously good getting top money for our wantaway players, we are a Championship team and spending £100m or whatever on players who actually want to join us now, who then would he good enough for the PL (as promotion should be the aim) is very tricky. Seems much more sensible to pocket most of the money and loan in some players who can help us out of the league but we aren’t committed to longer term
@boehly surely you don’t want to be outbid by Liverpool? How small would that make you look? I think you should put in a 65mil bid
