This is just one example of the way that the club treats young supporters nowadays - some pupils at my son's school for kids with special educational needs had been doing a project based on the MKM stadium and, when they finished, their teacher took them (unannounced) to see City training at Cottingham. Andy Dawson spotted them on the edge of the ground and called them over for an impromptu penalty shoot out competition with him in goal. Brilliant! Well done City.
At least they're now stopping the traffic on Argyle Street, perhaps they've heard the loud comments Steverico and myself usually make when passing them there. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Well, Gus Hamer just went to Sheff Utd from Cov for about £15 million. He’s a couple years younger than Tufan and has been playing consistently well for Cov for three years. In terms of actual technical ability, there’s not a lot between Hamer and Tufan. However, Tufan’s had an up-and-down career and lacked that consistency whereas Hamer’s just been on an upward trajectory. I think we paid about £3.5 - 4 million. The club could, and should, demand double that at least if bigger clubs came sniffing. He looks happy here and he’s probably the physically fittest and most mentally focused he’s been in his entire career.
I would have said £8-10m would have been fair for him off the top of my head and that concurs with your justification there.
Just goes to show people shouldn't write players off at first glance. Granted he still will have bad games but if he can be fairly consistent then we have a real player
He wasn’t bad at all last season either. Took him a few months to get fully fit but he still scored 8 goals and played defensive mid, centre mid, attacking mid, right-wing and as a false 9. He could’ve gone in January but wanted to stay and fight for his place. Was used as a utility player by several managers for the good of the team and his attitude was stellar. I think Tufan will become a cult hero at City and we’ll remember him quite fondly when he goes in the same way we have massive respect for the likes of Meyler.
Amazing, brilliant, super, fantastic (Jim Bowen would run out of words). Total respect to the club. But how the mighty have fallen, I seen we have Harry Windsor on pitch side PA duty.
The excuse for the first goal was that the ref whistled twice. Watching it live, I thought particularly Greaves had stopped to remonstrate with the ref that it wasn’t a foul (which I would agree with). Watching the highlights would support LR’s gripe, the ref gave a double blow of the whistle a few moments after his first whistle for the foul. We shouldn’t have stopped playing and were a bit naive, but apart from being garbage refereeing, does anybody have any idea why he may have done that?
I must say I like Greaves at left back, he allowed us to change at half time and go to 3 at the back and get wide players further forward.
I think we were really doing that in the first half already, Coyle was playing very high up alongside Lokilo, so was basically a three at the back even then.
Finally caught up on the whole game. Not quite sure I understand the comments around a lack of cutting edge at 0-0, Slater nicked the ball off them and forced a smart save for a corner less than ten minutes in, Delap had a great turn and shot that cannoned off the post when we were 1-0 down, and the aforementioned Coyle cross into Delap also at 0-0 that could have been an easy tap in. A few other half-chances too, but it certainly seemed like we were creating a number of good chances. Lokilo looked bright and full of energy desperate to succeed, nice lofted ball for Traore to play him in but didn't come to anything, think he'll take a while to get up to the speed of the Championship but at least threw himself in and pressed well. Slater had another instance I think early in the second half where he skinned two players and skipped past a third to win a corner which I think will be a common feature in his play this season and wouldn't be surprised to see him win a handful of penalties from. Coyle was basically playing right wing the entire match, and Greaves was basically playing as a third CB, so, dare I say it, it was virtually a 3-5-2 which some of us called for in pre-season given the players available. Tufan unplayable at times with his passing and movement, and Traore impressive next to him as well. All in all a great performance, perhaps coloured because I knew the result as I watched, but it always felt like we were on top, even when we went 1-0 down (a 'gift' of a goal for them as the ref had blown his whistle so the City players stopped before he just let Wednesday keep playing..). Stonewall pen on Greaves after Lokilo got the ball in a dangerous area, he was getting some great balls in the box. Greaves was targeted all game but kept working hard which was great to see. Thought Delap had a good game even if it wasn't capped with a goal, although he did seem to drift in and out of it. Wouldn't be against seeing Oscar get a start next week.
