Just crawling through some past season data and it turns out the 2008 McLaren was the 3rd best car <ok>

McLaren have been weak at Interlagos for years. The circuit hasn't suited their cars for some time. Look at their performances from 2007 onwards to see how average they have been there compared to both Ferrari and then Red Bull. Don't think they have ever been in contention for a win. Even Kimi having a pre-race **** in 2006 didn't seem to help much!

Really? The constructors points don't agree with you.

Anyway, who was second? BWM? Who stopped serious development of the car after getting their win in Canada to concentrate on 2009 season because of all the rule changes that were coming in?

That was probably the decision that won Lewis the championship that year, more than the one made by Toyota in Brazil which lead to Glock being on the wrong tyres at the end of that astonishing race.

Also, lets not forget (when looking into stats) that Lewis' team mate that year was Kovi, and with all due respect, the drivers in the both the Ferrari and BMW cars that year were better.

And so Heikki driving the other McLaren is a correct way in seeing that...

Even Schumacher of 2010 could of driven that thing faster than that flop.

Sorry I thought using the second driver was the way of measuring car speeds these days <laugh> Kovalienen isn't that bad anyway, he's beaten Fisichella as a rookie and Trulli pretty easily.

Whenever I see that nonsensical bit of propaganda I lose interest in whatever else is written in that post or about LH by the writer. If Glock had been on the right tyres he would've still ended up behind Hamilton as he would've made a pit-stop, and he was behind LH when he made his stop.

I think that propaganda is a little strong. To be honest, I decided to write that nonsensical point (as you rightly point out, it's not valid, and that's a point that I've made many times before myself) because I was trying to get at was that the decision by BMW to abandon 2008 was a huge mistake, but most people go along with the Glock thing to the point where its become legend and where Lewis "won" the title that year.

I think his use of the word 'Hollow' makes it sound worthless, which of course it was not. A victory can only be hollow if you had no reason to celebrate it.

He may have got more satisfaction if he had won and beaten Vettel, but a win is a win to any driver. Would Alonso or Button have thought it a hollow win just because Vettel was out?

A strange choice of words from Brundle.

The problem with Hamilton's win is that it was fairly straightforward and without any incidents. No driver whats that <laugh> Look at most of Vettel's wins this season, probably hates them <whistle>

Yeah, I'm sure he will view his WDC as a hollow one when he sees how easy it was :)

Why didn't he have a couple of mid-race spins to make it more exciting for himself!?

When "you and me" who have never stepped into an F1 car makes such a comment, it sounds ok but when a driver like Brundle who has driven an F1 car and never won, no pole, no fastest lap make such a comment, then one has to question his motive. Just to sett the records straight, Olivier Panis won a race with a Ligier:undecided:

And a corker of a race it was too :)

But that was a very hollow vicotry as Panis relied on everyone ahead of him retiring. What a sad way to win your first GP. I bet he was mortified.

Yes, and so Brundle never placed himself even once in a position to win a hollow race, just because he didn't like such wins, thats how Brundle and you see it, great!

I think the use of the word "hollow" without the words "a little" in front of it (which is how it is in the sentence in which Martin uses the word Hollow, not the attention grabbing headline that I'd wager someone else at the BBC came up with) makes a big difference.

If you are saying that Martin Brundle can't judge Hamilton's win because he has never won a race then by that logic you can't judge Brundle's judgement because you have never been a F1 commentator/pundit or even driven a F1 car.

It's like someone winning the gold in the 100m because Usaine Bolt had been injured, they'd think "yeah, I won the Olympic gold, but..."
