Why are we even still in the game if he doesn't even want to play for us. Just pull out and move on

Think it's just ****housery to make Chelsea pay more - that has benefitted Brighton, but shot us spectacularly in the foot re Lavia, whom we really wanted in all this scenario.

Well .. us staying in the deal means Chelsea have had to stump up another £30m to get their man. None of us ever expected to be anywhere near Caicedo, so if you want to find a small positive in the situation, that's it.
Why

You could up your bid to £200m, it would make no difference because the player doesn't want to come to you. If anything it means Chelsea could maybe lower their bid and if nobody else comes in get him at a lower price.

Not sour grapes, but Caicedo for £111m is @ £45m over the odds - I appreciate it was retaliation, and he is fine player, but while we had to shell out £15m over the odds for Virgil because he was worth it to us, 2/5ths over the odds is ridiculous.

The tragedy is Lavia - he's not worth £55m, but he is worth over £40m. I'd still stump up £50m for him, because we need him more than Caicedo, but if we don't get him (and it looks exceedingly distant now), there's talk of Amrabat for £28m if we can out bid United, but I wouldn't go over £30m, but a DM, another mid and a CB for the £150m we would have spent on Caeicedo and Lavia would be a better outcome than what were getting on Friday morning, IMO. And, though it would mean a few quiet windows and possibly selling Mo and Virgil to the Arabs over the next couple of summers, unlike Chelsea, we can afford it in the long-run.

I think that's fair and I generally agree

They bid £85m it was rejected. We bid £110m it was accepted. They have bid £115m allegedly, still not confirmed. Ergo, our bid forced their hand to offer £30m more.

Your bid is no longer valid which means they could now go back with a lower bid. Would it be accepted? who knows but if not they could move on to Lavia and outbid you there.

Supposedly...

Brighton told Caicedo they'd sell him to the highest bidder

Whilst our bid is on the table, it's the highest bid until someone bids higher

If it's true that he only wants to join Chelsea, Chelsea either bid higher or wait until the dying hours in the window.

Wouldn't be the first time Caicedo as anchored after a move. Not would it be the first time he's refused to go to a club because his heads already been turned by another.

(I'm not buying any of this btw, he'll go Chelsea for whatever fee is agreed regardless of our bid)

With you now out of the running then Chelsea would be the highest bidder at £85m.

Only our bid is supposedly still on the table because Caicedo hasn't actually said (at least publicly) he didn't want to join Liverpool.

(Again, just answering. I'd prefer us to walk away if he's said it)

£85m is closer to the mark, truth be told. Stiil a bit hefty if Rice is only worth £105m. But if we've forced an extra £30m out of them, then that's sweet. They'll still probably just sell a few players to the Arabs to make up for it, but we'll see.

The fact that he hasn't publicly denied it is enough for me - I'd never want to see his overpriced arse at our club. But as we've now lost Lavia anyway. I'm all for keeping our bid on the table anyway. in fact, increase it to £120m. Boehly can't walk away now. <diva>

How are Liverpool out the running could you post a link where either caicedo his agent, Brighton or Liverpool have said he doesn’t want to come. At the moment Chelsea are out of the running as they haven’t had a bid accepted. I totally accept he will most likely end up at Chelsea but at this moment what your stating is bollocks until Chelsea submit an accepted bid or Liverpool walk away neither has happened yet

Then why isn't he your player yet?

So Tyler Adams obviously available at 20m.
Only 24. Played for a red bull team so has right sort of pedigree. Full of energy. Maybe not quite set world alight but experienced enough to be an option but not too old that can get good few years out of him with some resale value.

Wouldn’t want to be the only midfield signing but wouldn’t be a horrible option to bring in as a henderson type replacement.
