Did we recall Alnwick just for this match. Good to see Campbell start. Hooper on the bench woo

Seems like they deserve their goal. Looks like they've got a stronger team out than we have though.

Noble, recently back from a loan spell with Carlisle, gives the home side the lead - and celebrates, arms outstretched, right in front of the Newcastle fans. He was put though by England youth international Knott - who had an unsuccessful trial with the Magpies a few months ago - and despite Alnwick getting hands to his low shot, the ball creeps into the net.

    What a ****.

I take comfort in the fact that we beat them in the league though. Just wait until after the game, I bet one of their lot tries to spin it as somehow being more important <laugh>.

    End of match summary.

    Sunderland Reserves 3
    Newcastle United Reserves 0

Willie Donachie's Reserves lost their unbeaten record as Newcastle United lost for only the third time at all levels this season.

A young Magpies side had matched the Sunderland second-string until Ryan Noble struck the opener on 36 minutes, and the same player added a second shortly before half-time.

Less than a minute into the second period, Noble completed his hat-trick and United struggled to find a way though, with Adam Campbell's first half-header - superbly saved by Trevor Carson - the closest they came.

And, in stoppage time, defender Patrick Nzuzi was shown a straight red for a professional foul.

Newcastle remain top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North, however, despite their first defeat of the campaign.
