THAT was a good performance for sure, Columbia played like a team possed.. good job 1-1 at HT or could have been a different ending with Columbia maybe coming out victors
It’s ColOmbia JGF, not a Canadian province!! A schoolmate of mine lived there for many years and get very, very pissy when it’s not spelt correctly!!!
Actually named after Christopher Columbus, and was Columbia before ................. see Pre-Columbian cultures of Colombia article in WIKI P BUT YOU ARE RIGHT now with an O not a U ! I must have typed Colombia AT LEAST 50 TIMES! and written Cards to it as many ....
Recovering from surgery 2 weeks ago - so have not been to the first 2 City games (and wont be recovered enough to get t0 the Birmingham game) I've seen quite a bit of the World Cup - and have really enjoyed it England started the tournament slowly - peaking at the right time! I though Lauren Hemp has been exceptional in the Quarter Final and the Semi Great away from home performance today - showed they have bottle Looking forward to Sunday
Hope you’re recovering well SMH and I hope it fixed you. I’m having surgery next month - not looking forward to it but can’t wait for the outcome (assuming successful). Take care mate and enjoy the football on the TV
Chuffed we be beat them. Noisy bu**ers those Aussies. Played with and against them. Great competitors.
Hoping the surgery was a success and wishing you a speedy recovery, enjoy the football on tv, hope you are fit enough soon to return to AG .
I've noticed a few differences between the women's and the men's teams (apart from the glaringly obvious!!!) Although the women's game has improved hugely, the men's technical standard is still higher - and probably will always remain higher, simply because of the men's average physical athletic capabilities being greater due to the natural gender difference, which can't be helped. I don't think many people would argue with this. However, what THIS women's team do (IMHO) better than the men's team, is the mental stuff. This group of Lionesses didn't let the Aussie equaliser get to them mentally, whereas our men's team would have had a period of panic. The women approach the game in a more 'German' way; industrious, determined, unwavering and thorough. They concentrate on the task in hand and don't let conceding a goal distract them from their end goal. Gareth Southgate's men's team would have tried to sit back on the 1-0 lead, inviting the opposition to attack, and then gone into a panic when conceding. I think England will go on and win this..... (there - I've jinxed it now!!!)
I think it’s more the physicality and power the women are, and will always remain, behind the men. I’ve been really impressed with some of the technical aspects of the women’s games. The volley that James scored was technically brilliant, the diagonal passing by Bright on occasions has also been impressive. The turn, the drive forward and pass by Hemp for our 3rd against the Aussies was outstanding, when considering the timing, the last 10 mins or so in a World Cup Semi final, when Australia are really coming onto us , and causing us problems that’s really impressive to be able to remain calm and produce that kind of skill under enormous pressure, that’s quality. I still prefer the pace and power of the men’s game though personally.
